You gather from this brief interview with Katie Couric the commitment that Ellen has to being Vegan.

Whoa, I must say I'm pretty f***ing impressed. I still don't like her advertising for cosmetics companies, but it's pretty cool that she has watched Earthlings and that she seems to feel strongly about the topic. Let's hope a few months from now I don't have to read about her dropping veganism.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts.

I loved her response and hopefully it will inspire her many viewers.

I'm impressed too.

I don't think I've ever heard her talk about her veganism before...and I think in a way that's a good thing. She's not like one of those celebrity vegans who's trying it out for attention!

Also...not that I put any stock into this, since it's hearsay, but I think I had read somewhere here on this forum that she was contractually obligated to do the cover girl ads, which she had signed on before becoming a vegan.

btw, what's wrong with animals voting?? I think it might be a good thing, considering how f#@^d up our democracy is working right now!

I've always loved Ellen. She is very good at communicating her reasons for being vegan without being an "angry, in your face, this is what you should do" type of vegan or AR supporter.

Beautifully said, Ellen. This is the kind of graceful, honest response I want to be able to have for people. Sometimes I get irritated when someone tries to rile me up, but Ellen just reminded me I have nothing to be defensive about. Thank you for sharing!

Really? She talks about it frequently on her show. She's had her personal chef on numerous times to cook vegan dishes. Ellen and her wife Porta De Rossi are both vegan and had a vegan wedding

I love Ellen. I love her for "coming out" in the way she did as well.

...

oh? I don't watch her show regularely or rather I've caught it a few times here and there...and never heard her mention it. Even when she's had a vegan guest, she didn't bring it up. But I've never seen a show when she's had her or any chef on. So maybe she brings it up when food is involved.

And there's this: My link

Why Go Vegan?

Living a Cruelty-free Lifestyle

It is obvious that in order to eat meat, an animal had to be slaughtered, but the issues of cruelty go far beyond just the death of an animal. The lives of animals raised to be slaughtered are miserable. Often packed into close quarters, many animals are unable to lie down or turn around, and the hygiene is terrible. Many slaughter methods are imperfect and cause great suffering before death.

The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them. That is the essence of humanity.

those folks have their role to play too (as well as a reason to be angry). It takes all kinds of advocacy for animals. I wouldn't try to marginalize those who do it in a way that you don't prefer.

"If you want to know where you would have stood on slavery before the civil war, don't look at where you stand on slavery today, look at where you stand on animal rights." - Paul Watson.

Every animal you eat

They totally have their role, but Ellen is bloody brilliant at getting the message to the masses in a non judgemental, non confrontational way.

I agree, it's one of the best talks I have heard on why someone went vegan. And it came from her heart.

She said exactly what I felt, and we turned vegan the same way! YAY Ellen! I watched Earthlings - as an omnivore. Ninety minutes later, I was a vegan. There was no way I could have participated in the cruelty I saw there ever again. Period, no more, DONE. It was almost a year ago, now, and those 90 minutes of horror ended up being the most positive and wonderful experience of my life. Rock the hell on, Ellen.
