So, I have cut out animal meats and dairy completely from my diet, I check all labels and try my hardest to remember what's derived from animals and not add it to my trolley. I do the same for clothing now and am currently trying to figure out what to do in regards to my shampoo and cosmetics... I know that getting this all right will take a while, I've only been at it for nearly three weeks, so the question I have to ask is:

Can I call myself a Vegan or not?

I'm not atually comfortable with calling myself that just yet because I feel there is so much more for me to learn, but I know that that's what I am striving for and happy to be for life.

IMO you're a vegan when you've done everything practical and possible to eliminate animal products from your diet and lifestyle. So if you're doing everything you can then I say go ahead and call yourself vegan.

I think you are. Welcome to the team that's fighting against animal exploitation. Tomorrow morning at 0600 I will teach you maggots how to throw exploding pineapples at the enemy.

Sounds vegan to me, though I'm a fairly new vegan, too. But I don't see why you wouldn't count as vegan. Veganism -- as I understand it -- isn't about being perfect. I don't see how someone could go through life without being responsible for the use and/or killing of animals. After all, what do you do if your local tap water is filtered with animal char? Do you get spring water from hundreds of miles away and pray the trucks that got it to you didn't hit any bugs? There aren't perfect choices in life. You do the best you can with what choices you have.

I don't even see the point of throwing out my old non-vegan items. How does that help anyone? It just leads to more waste when I have to replace the items with something new, waste that will likely lead to more animals being hurt or killed. But, of course, I doing my best to only buy vegan items from now on and support particularly vegan-friendly businesses.
