I just read the ingredient list on the fruitopia drink I had for dinner. Cochineal extract. CRUSHED BUGS.

IT'S JUICE! One should not have to check the ingredient list on JUICE to see if there's meat in it!

I am going to go brush and gargle now. Repeatedly. BLEH.

Well, yeah. I don't drink either very often at all, but I picked up a carton today because my kids like it, and it was on sale for a buck. I didn't think to check the label beforehand...

Um... Is soda not vegan?!

That's why you make your own juice

Pink grapefruit juice may also contain cochineal extract. Also, some strawberry flavored drinks may contain it too. Anything with a red/pink color might be suspect. The beetle coloring also goes by the names carmine and Red #4 (not to be confused with Red #40, which is vegan).

That's what I was thinking! I remember that being out when I was in Junior High. Remember the psychedelic-kaleidoscope commercials?

My family bought a can of peanuts once, but nobody else liked them. I was eating them and noticed that the ingredients list was quite long. Wondering what they could possibly put in peanuts I started reading and came across gelatin. GROSS!!!!! How is it they find so many ways to ruin perfectly good food?
