Dear fellow vegans:

I thought it would be interesting if members would post about how long they have been practicing vegans and the difference it has made in their lives, health and spiritual.

Here goes,

I have been eating vegan style for a few weeks. I have only fallen off the wagon, once and felt physically afterwards

My husband, married daughter and I are all Vegans.

Since becoming a Vegan, I have more energy and feel much better.

About about 3 months now and so far I've found it to be totally painless. Overall my energy and (unsuspectingly) my mental focus has increased.

I've been vegan.... uuuuuhhhhh..... 6 months or so. I don't keep track. I was vegetarian for 8ish months before that.

Since my switch I feel awesome, I have more energy, I can concentrate better, I want to get out and work out (I started jogging three days a week), enjoy nature, unplug from the internet, back away from the computer and go DO something! (Increased energy I'm sure is the reason for that. haha!)

I am eating truly great tasting food and a bigger variety of foods. Becoming vegan (and especially recently with a raw kick) has challenged me to become a better cook which benefits my whole family.

About 2 1/2 months. I have more energy and concentration.

My daughter started this with me and decided to go lacto ovo. About two weeks ago, she made the switch to vegan.

Even my son has decided to become vegan.

For about a month and a half.

Before: Steadily gaining weight

After: Steadily losing weight

Before: Emotional, aggressive wreck

After: Peaceful, calm, focused - still intensely passionate at times!

Before: Pimples and weird bumps on different parts of my body after a particularly fatty meal ie: steak, mac n cheese, pizza, etc. Ewwww!

After: Clear, glowing skin

Before: Depression and lack of "purpose"

After: Much more bold and confident!

Before: Bad cramps

After: Still premature, but no cramps this time!

Before: Knowing what I was eating and still being in denial

After: Eating without guilt

Before: Worried about finding fewer recipes to try out as a vegan (falling in love with cooking)

After: Feel way more creative and excited about cooking more!!

I've been vegan for about a month and a half as well! I was going to make the transition slowly, but when I take a moment to consider the source of what I'm about to pop into my mouth...no thank you!!!

The benefits:

-My weight is steady, steady despite the fact I am eating like crazy!!! That has NEVER

been the case for me

-My skin is ridiculously amazing (thanks to the diet and Aveda!!)

-Definitely more focused

-Less of desire to eat til I feel like I'm gonna explode

-No guilt

-I cook and eat at home more and am thus saving a ton of dough

Sometimes I'll get a crazing for junk/sweets and having my Blackberry with me has helped a ton in looking up "mystery" ingredients

I've been vegan for about 18-months and I feel I have a renewed sense of purpose. I'd been vegetarian for 15 years andthought that was it but after learning about veganism and changing my lifestyle I definately feel different - it's more than just a dietary change.

I have been vegan nearly three years now.

I had always wanted to try veganism although I didn't really fully understand the reasons why someone chose that lifestyle. I wish I had made the transition from vegetarian to vegan a lot sooner.

I feel happier with myself as a vegan and I have met other lovely vegan people.

Just over five years.

and it's turned me into such a health nut. I lost about, well I was 250lbs, and I'm not 124.7lbs, so that's quite a lot. It made me just over all more conscious about my health and taking care of myself. It also just... makes me feel better. I look at my happy food, with it's bright colours and I know nothing had to die for me to enjoy it, and my comfy new jacket, and shoes. No suffering. I'm a firm believer in nothing should have to die for me to live. Ever.

About five years being vegan, and before that I was lacto-vegetarian for 8 years. My wife is also vegan.

Can't really say I feel physically much different, and my weight has not changed much since I was 19 (which is good!). But recently I've been trying to go more regularly to the gym, and that has had a positive impact. (A couple of visible muscles!)

Because I don't use or consume animal products I have contributed considerably less to the use & abuse of animals that goes on in our society, and therefore I sleep better at night.

I no longer post here after VB was sold in 2012. (See my profile page for details.)

I've been vegan for 6 1/2 years, vegetarian for 5 1/2 years before that. I feel generally better - can't really say how, I just do. I can't really remember how I felt before, but before I went vegan I had crazy acne and now I don't.

I was doing my own thing quietly and YOU are the one who created this post trying to make a big deal out of it. Keep flaming the fire. That must be what you want.

My husband and I have been vegan for 2 years now. I have lost about 40 pounds and I do not diet!! We enjoy a much more varied diet than when we were omnis, and hubby has taken over cooking!! We feel much healthier and are exercising. Unheard of before! I feel like we are doing something positive for the environment and of course for animals.

At a guess... 5 years.

Since going vegan I developed the ability to shoot laser beams out of my eyes. I do wonder if my lack of B12 has had some detrimental effect on my sanity though.

I can't wait for the day when my meat-free years are greater than my meat-eating years. So far, it's Meat=26 years, Meat-free=13 years

vegetarian for fifteen years; vegan for almost a year and a half

i lost about ten pounds when i first went vegan; then i discovered how easy it was to make vegan brownies and other favorite treats. haven't gained any weight back, though... so it's all good. i definitely feel a lot healthier than i did as a lacto-ovo veg. i've always bought soy or rice milk since my second year of vegetarianism, but i used to eat mozzarella sticks or some kind of cheese just about every single day. now i can eat and not feel all bloated or weighted down and greasy after a meal. oh... and i never really got BAD cramps during my time of the month, but now i rarely get ANY.

opening my eyes fully and going vegan makes me feel so much better about myself. i always intended to go vegan "someday", but i was starting to think i'd never get there. i always felt like such a hypocrite as i KNEW about the dairy and egg industries... yet the omnis around me (read - EVERYONE i know!) made me feel like vegetarianism was fine, but that i'd have to be CRAZY to go vegan. i'm glad i finally tuned them out and started listening to my heart.
