I really empathize. My sister who has been vegan for several years now (and ethical at that) thinks it is too expensive and has been eating meat/dairy here and there, mostly the junk food variety. Very very disappointing. I even bought her weeks worth of groceries and once showed her all the stuff she could find vegan at the dollar store, to no avail. She is heavily influenced by my mother though who went back to being omnivore some time ago. So now both my Mom and sister are no longer vegan and I am alone again. I still stand very firm in my beliefs and convictions. I'm just saddened by my family's choice right now. :/ I feel like I have failed somehow, though I have bent over backwards trying to help them.

But you know you didn't fail them, since everyone in in charge of their own decisions. You know that you tried, and that should count for something.

Happy birthday!

I saw something cute today and wasn't sure where else to post it:

I've recently been playing Fable 3 for Xbox. It's a role-playing fantasy adventure game. In game, you can eat to gain health, but certain foods also make you gain special abilities. I've elected to make my character vegan, so she mainly eats carrots and tofu. The description for tofu states that it raises her health and morality stats. I thought that was funny!

Also, I highly recommend it. It's a great game, but highly addictive!

Thanks, everyone. I couldn't believe it, especially since it was her daughter who had egg and dairy allergies, forcing* me to figure out vegan baking (and subsequently joining this message board) and 2 of her siblings who were vegan moving here, forcing* me to figure out vegan meals...*NOTE: I'm sure there's a better word to use then "forcing", but I'm not sure what that word would be...Encouraging, perhaps? Helping?...I or someone will come up with a better word then force for my veganism.

Happy Birthday!! I don't do Facebook happy birthdays, because then I would feel obligated to wish EVERYBODY a Facebook happy birthday, and that would be too overwhelming for me.

So you're getting a belated VB 'happy birthday' wish. I hope it was full of magic and rainbows and kittens!

It's Saturday!

What are all you fine people up to today?

It's sunny and beautiful here and I'm just finishing up my last half hour of work before I'm done this job and officially working from home! Tomorrow is going to be a very lazy Sunday.

Thank you! I understand, it's a serious commitment when wishing birthdays on Facebook (that wasn't sarcasm)

It was full of magical rainbow kittens!

I had a bridal shower today. It was nice, but 6 people bailed at the last minute and we only had 9 people total (including me). "Friends" suck.

Tomorrow is my very last day of work! I've been with the company for 5 years and now it's ending. Ending a chapter, starting a new one in my life

Sorry about the people who bailed on your shower...that stinks!

But such a happy time for you...new chapters are exciting and fun!

I love lazy Sundays! And Saturdays! My job is so stressful I use my weekends to recharge whenever I can. I don't mind the little chores like tidying up, laundry, food shopping. Or even tackling a small project (like cleaning out the garage or attic). It's the fact that I can take breaks throughout the day and watch tv and cuddle with the kitties...my favorite thing to do.

Hi everyone! I spent my Friday driving to Idaho, my Saturday visiting my mother's home town in Montana, and decorating the graves of family members who are there, and Sunday driving home (It's about 200+ miles, or about 8 hours driving).

Ugh, that is so not my kind of weather. It's really hot here in Vancouver and I'm hiding from the sun like a mole person.

I used to just hate summer but now I actually like it, I just need to keep cool and stay in the shade a lot.

Impressive! Is it hard to make your own seitan? I've been considering trying it but it seems like so much work. Homemade gyros are tempting me though...
