I know protien shakes help to aid people in gaining weight.

You have to get SOY protein shakes though. Not Whey (unless you're just vegetarian and not vegan) or meat protein.

Sometimes it's just how a person is built. My uncle and cousin's bodies NEVER gain weight.. and they EAT so much (and are omni) -- and my brother in law was the same way until he started to drink protein shakes.

They seem to work. :3

I'm actually gaining weight on a vegan diet effortlessly Unfortunately I don't need to be gaining weight I just do a lot of home cooking, homemade breads, and other evil vegan baked goods. Along with not using very good judgment on portions. Gee, listing my flaws, what fun.

You can also make sure you get enough healthy fats - avacados and nuts are good sources.

Pick up a copy of "The Joy of Vegan Baking" or "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World" and go crazy in the kitchen.
