Hi guys....

I've gotten my first negative comments since I became a veg*n.

Yesterday dh finally started to debate with me over this. I knew it was coming. I don't mind debating, but he laughs while he does it and hurts my feelings and I told him so. I said "Can't you debate without hurting my feelings?" He did apologize and said he didn't mean to hurt my feelings. I also used the line I read on here (I think) "I'm not trying to force you to change, why are you trying to force me?" And he got it then. He said he wouldn't try to make me change. It's not going to stop him from debating with me though, that's a promise.

Then yesterday we went to a wedding (we were on our way during the debate) and, knowing that they'd not have any food I could eat, I packed something. I had roasted potatoes and raw veggies. It was a small wedding, and the reception was at someone's home, so I microwaved my potatoes and sat down to eat. I was really REALLY enjoying it.

The bride's daughter (15?) walked by me and said "Vegetarian" with a snide sound to her voice.

I said "That's right."

She didn't say anything else.

UGH!!!! Just wanted to share.

Your responses to DH and the snide daughter were great! We always say around here that keeping a positive attitude about our veg diets goes a long way in showing the world that we're not ashamed or embarrassed about what we eat.

Good for you for standing up for yourself. People don't understand that it's a personal choice and it's something that we've thought out and are proud of. I will never understand why people have to try to make someone uncomfortable for eating in a healthy way that doesn't cause suffering to animals or the environment. It just baffles me.

Also, what a great idea taking your dinner with you!!!!

You handled both these situations very well. Soon your family and friends will learn to accept your new lifestyle, but until then just hang in there.

They're your feelings and you decide what you're going to feel.

That's the theory anyway, and I find it hard to do, but I can see the sense in it.
