So, I'm graduating. As the only vegan in my family of omnivores, I'd like a vegan (or at least vegetarian) grad party. Is that too much to ask? (No, really. Is it?)

My family wants to have a BBQ with beef patty hamburgers. However, I'd prefer not to have animals die for this celebration.

Boca burgers would be a poor substitute for this, but are there any other options?

I need some ideas for a picnic/BBQ style meal.

Thanks :)

Pizza? Some places have vegan cheese for their pizzas or you can get one without cheese and they all have vegetarian pizza for the omni family.

not at all. i think a compromise of making it vegetarian is good if your family is too resistant to it being vegan.
you can grill lots of veggies and fruit: zucchini, mushrooms, peppers, corn, asparagus, other squash, pineapple (amazing), peaches, tomatoes, maybe banana (never tried), potatoes.
you could also grill veggie burgers (other than boca) or make this which is unbelievably amazing
you can also bring some cold salads like potato salad or a couscous or quinoa salad

Congratulations! On graduating. No, it's not too much to ask for a veg friendly celebration. Our own Jennifer C posted a thread about vegan BBQs, that's worth a look. I hope you come back, and I hope this helps.

Anytime I think I'm perfect, I remember that my cousin lives on an island, and I've never walked over to visit her.
