Amazingly delicious hummus and tomato pizza

This recipe is suitable for a: vegetarian/vegan diet

Preparation Time: 150 minutes

Serves: 2-3




½ cup warm water

¼ tsp sugar

1 tsp olive oil

1 tsp active yeast

Pinch sea salt

1 cup flour

2 tsp fresh chopped rosemary


4 tbsp hummus

2 thinly sliced tomatoes (2-3mm thick slices)

3 cloves garlic, sliced

12 whole black olives

5 fresh basil leaves



Stir sugar and olive oil into water until sugar is dissolved. Sprinkle yeast evenly over liquid, cover and leave somewhere warm for 5 minutes, or until yeast is frothy. Stir in salt and most of the flour enough to make a dough that doesn't stick add chopped rosemary and knead, using left over flour to make sure the dough doesn't get sticky while you're kneading.

Place dough in a floured bowl, cover and leave somewhere warm for an hour. Knead again, and leave for another hour.

Heat oven to 200oCelsius. Knead for a third time, and roll out to the shape and thickness you want.

Transfer dough to oven tray, spread over hummus and arrange other toppings. Tear basil leaves and sprinkle them over the pizza. Bake for 10 minutes at 200oC, then turn oven down to about 170oC until pizza crust is golden.

Additional comments:



I made my pizza with a very thin crust, if you make the crust thicker you will need less topping.

Also, I used sundried tomato and basil hummus, but plain would probably do just as well.

Thanks for this recipe. I'll give it a try sometimes although I am a bit skeptical about putting Hummus onto a Pizza.

I have been known to make tasty pita bread pizza using whole wheat pita as a crust, garlic hummus in place of sauce and topping it with sauteed onion, thinly sliced zucchini and if I feel so inclined, veg*n cheese. I tried the same combo with crumbled veggie italian sausage before as well. Great 10-min meal.
