EASY! Savory Vegan Beer Bread

Category: Breads

This recipe is suitable for a: vegetarian/vegan diet

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 1 loaf

Ingredients:

-----------------------------------------------------

3 cups unbleached flour

3 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon and 3/4 teaspoon baking powder

2-3 cloves garlic, slivered

12 oz of your favorite beer

Italian seasonings (such as thyme, basil, oregano, etc.) to taste, usually about 2 tablespoons altogether

A drizzle of olive oil

Instructions:

-----------------------------------------------------

-Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly oil bread pan and set aside.

-Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Thoroughly mix in beer and garlic. Spread into bread pan, and bake for 30 minutes.

-Remove from the oven, and cut 3 or 4 deep gashes into the bread. With a pastry brush, spread a light and even coat of olive oil over the bread. Replace in oven and bake for another 15 minutes, or until browned.

-Remove from oven, let stand for about 10 minutes, and serve. Can be stored frozen for about a month.

Additional comments:

-----------------------------------------------------

I took a very easy beer bread recipe and made it a bit more savory, adding garlic cloves and premixed Italian seasoning, which included thyme, basil, rosemary, oregano, marjoram, savory, and sage. I don't actually measure how much I put in, I just mix it in until I feel like the bread will be evenly littered with herbs. =]

As a hearty bread with an enticing aroma, it goes well with an Italian themed meal or sun-dried tomato pesto.

Enjoy! =]
