Ok, I'm sure several of you have decided to lose weight as a new year's resolution. This thread is for you. Here is what we'll do:

First decide how much you want to lose - there is no time frame - we can go until everyone reaches their goal or drops out.

Take the number 100 and divide it by the number of pounds you wish to lose. Each week you will multiply the number of pounds you've lost by that number. That will help you track your progress without having to post your starting weight, current weight, or goal weight.

Example: You would like to lose 20 pounds. 100 divided by 20 = 5. Each pound represents 5% of your goal. The first week you lose 3 pounds. You take 3 pounds lost and multiply it by 5 and you get 15%. 3 pounds is 15% of your goal. That percentage is what we will use to track everyone's progress.

If you need help with the math you can pm me privately with the number of pounds you wish to lose (I don't need your starting weight or goal weight). I tried to explain it as best I can. Basically we're all starting at 0% and our goal is 100%.

Our first weigh-in will be January 1st. We will not post a percentage that Saturday because we will all be at 0% of our goal. The first day you will post a percentage is January 7th (after the first weigh-in we'll go to Fridays).

Now... To keep everyone accountable... This isn't going to be a thread where people post and disappear. I will compile a list of everyone who is participating and will update the 1st post accordingly. I'd rather not have this turn into an administrative nightmare so please commit to weighing in and posting your percentage on Fridays. If you do not post your perecentage 2 consecutive Fridays you will be considered MIA. Also, to be included please post your desire to join prior to 12/31.

Ok, I'm in. Maybe having to post my weight-loss once a week will keep me honest!

Just to clarify, you don't have to post weights or how much you've lost - only the percentage of the way you are to your goal.

I cannot start today. My sister sent me home with homemade buckeyes on Saturday. (Mine are good, but she is the queen of buckeyes!)

Sounds good to me! I am a little confused by the math but I just woke up and haven't finished my coffee yet so maybe I'll be able to figure it out in a little bit. I'll start today too so that way I don't spend the week "getting ready" by eating all junk food in sight!

I want to play, too! My habits are awful. Can't I just get points for 1) eating healthy AND 2) exercising? It seems that idea would also work for people who don't have a scale.

Actually we're going to change the weigh-in day to Friday. Some people only have computer access M-F. Since we're not posting anything the first time go ahead and do your first weigh-in on 1/1.

Okay, I'm in too. I'm checking the scale (eek...Christmas cookies) later today when I hit the gym.

Isn't that part of what the hamsters are for?

I thought the hamsters were purely for posting exercise ... Same thing goes for the 'what did you eat today thread', except its food. I know the WDYET thread is not really an 'accountable' type atmosphere. Its more of a post and wander away ... not a lot of interaction. I haven't really checked the hamster thread out that carefully. I was just sort of assuming it was the same way.

Jinga - Yeah, the hamsters aren't really a 'hold-people-accountable' group either but there's definitely some interaction going on there. I see what you mean, though, I guess I didn't consider that
