I didn't see a swimming thread anywhere, so I thought I'd create one.

If there is, then feel free to delete this and point me toward it.

I tend to swim every other day, completing 100 lengths with a 30 second break every 25 lengths. It's amazing, what a difference it makes. If I skip swimming for a month, the flab gets flabby quickly!

Anyone else a big swimmer? Do you swim outdoors or indoors?

I'm outdoors, we have a public pool about 10 minutes walk away. It gets tough walking that in the summer (when it's so hot you can NOT walk around barefoot!)

Swimming is my favorite exercise! Outside for me.smiley.gif I swim in the Gulf at least once a week, I try for twice. I can't judge distance, so I just swim about an hour. smiley.gif

I don't know whether or not I can still really swim. I took lots of lessons as a kid, but I haven't swum for exercise in about a hundred years. I can paddle around and float. tongue3.gif

Funny, I started a thread with the exact same title last year.

I love swimming but haven't gone in a quite a while. When I swim I usually do workouts around 2000 yards and I like to swim with the Masters.

I swam several times on Wednesday; it was easy swimming as the water was like glass. Tomorrow I will be back again for more! smiley.gif

Swam again with the Masters. Today's workout was basically this:

200 pull

200 kick

workout 1st set:

3 x 100 kick, swim, sprint (kick 25, swim 25, sprint last 50)

2nd set:

100 pull with breath control (breathe every 3rd stroke)

2 x 50 pull breathe however you want

100 pull with breath control (breathe every 5th stroke)

2 x 50 pull breathe however you want

100 pull with breath control (breathe every 7th stroke)

2 x 50 pull breathe however you want

cool down:

100 kick

That sounds like a fantastic workout! smiley.gif

I swam a lot on Sunday. Went to the beach for a few hours late in the day and swam a total of an hour and 45 minutes. The waves were small, but the current was a workout to swim against when I headed south. Bonus: got a little tan through the sunscreen and some saltwater highlights in my hair. And I feel so good after I swim. smiley.gif

Hi Veggie Swimmers,

I am new here...but I am a swimmer so glad you find you guys. I am still recovering from an open water swim race on the weekend. I love open water but tend to do most of my swimming in the local pool.

Hi Vegan shift!
I've really been swimming a lot lately, I'm making time for it, and it feels really good. I swam in the lake near my house for an hour yesterday, which is less relaxing for me than the ocean. I'm a little paranoid of alligators, who I know don't want to bother me, but they're a little scary. shocked.gif

I used to compete in swimming. The free style was my event, back stroke too.

I wish that I had a pool within walking distance!  I used to swim when I was younger, it was so much fun and great exercise, but not so much anymore.

I love to swim when I'm not lifting. It's good cardio and works a lot of muscles.

Definitely, water provides good resistance.

It's also really easy on your joints, which is an important part of any cardio workout you might consider. :)

Swimming is a full body workout and can help us to lose weight. Swimming is one of my hobbies last summer because I want to have a flat belly and toned muscles. I swim every other day to in the nearest public pool. With proper diet and swimming, I have a flat belly now.

I went swimming today and I really had fun! However after my shower I fell asleep and it was the best sleep I had in months does anyone know if that was in any way related to the swim?

Animals should be loved not eaten !
