I ran three times this past week and two times the week before. I usually don't run very much. I much prefer the ellipticals at the gym, but I decided that running is something that it is important to be decent at. I already feel pain in my shins, which happened the last time I was running with some frequency. I don't know if I should push through it or what. I have brand new, nicely fitted running shoes too.

Shin pain can be ify because it can indicate shin splints, which aren't good at all.

I ran 10k last night in 01:11:04! A new PB for me.

I was kind of worried that my fitness and running would slip a bit due to me not running as much as before the marathon. I've gone from 3-4 runs a week to 2-3 and no LSRs for a while. But it's good to know that I still can run a long-ish run non-stop with no issues ^_^

no. just get out there and run. I'm not worried about finishing the 10K in a certain amount of time, or even running the full distance. I'm sure to walk a fair portion of it.  I went out running the other day (first time in ages, and first time since I gained so much of the weight back). That was brutal. Time to get serious about getting the weight off.

Ordered these.  I've never had New Balance shoes before...hope they are good!

My shoes now are horrible.  They have holes in the tops of them because I wear them all the time...for work, for running, for doing whatever.  The NBs will be strictly for running :)

I have a pair of New Balance shoes for running. They saw me through the marathon and will be seeing me through two 10k races. I really like them.

Arrrrrgh. So two weeks ago I couldn't go running because I was busy with international guests and came home late in the evening, last week I donated blood and had to take it easy according to the nurse, and now I'm sick! I want to go running. ;__;

Since my last proper update I have done a 10 minute lamp post run/walk (ok), a 10 minute slow run (pain twice during but overall ok however achy afterwards), a second 10 minute slow run (no pain during however achy afterwards but less than the run before) and a 4km charity run instead of the 14km I had planned (no pain during, ok pace but heaviness and aching afterward and intermittent pain 6 hours post run). I am back to the physio this afternoon for a verdict on my options and whether to go ahead with the half in July. I have my fingers and toes crossed for the most positive outcome possible.

How was everyone's weekend? Has anyone been running? For those in the US are you doing anything special on your memorial day holiday?

Thank you :) I'm feeling somewhat better. No fever and my throat isn't sore (at least not all the time) but I still have a nasty-sounding cough. I was able to take part in our PE exams and did okay.
I'm not great at running short distances, but in the running section of the test, I placed second the first time and third the second time. 700m in 3:10 yay.

Does anyone here run with a hydro pack? I was wondering because I got my hydro pack for biking and I tried running with it with a mostly full bladder but I just felt weird with the water sloshing around...maybe its not tight enough secured to my back?

I have a couple Camelbaks I use, both Army issues.  When I lived in Vegas, I always used them even for short runs cause running in the desert is a bit dehydrating :)  Here in Quebec I don't worry about it too much unless I'm going for a longer run.

But yeah, unless it's completely full it's gonna slosh.  Not much you can do about it except get used to it.

Hey guys.  Haven't been on in a while...

I have a trail half marathon tomorrow and I'm pretty nervous.  My training was going REALLY well until about 4 weeks ago.  I had to move the same week as my finals and then I was on vacation for 2 weeks, so those three weeks I got VERY little running in.  This week I've gone on some shorter runs (3 to 4 miles) and it's obvious that while my fitness seems fine, my legs feel like lead.  I'm hoping it'll shake off eventually during tomorrow's run (**fingers crossed**).

Hope you guys have all been doing well with your running!!

Ran 9K on Friday morning. New personal best, 1:00 including a 5-minute warm-up walk. I had high hopes of getting back into my regular exercise routines, BUT!!, in our gym exam (which I talked about in my previous post) we had to swim in a swimming pool, and guess what? STREPS. >: |

Ran a 50-miler in D.C. this past weekend.  Now I'm gearing up for a 50K in Minneapolis next month and hoping to get into a 100-miler in December!

Oh no :( Don't worry, there will always be other races. Race day nerves are tough.

I have a 10k this Sunday. I don't think I've trained nearly enough, but I'm hoping all that running I did for the marathon will kick in. I just have to remember to go slow at the start and then get quicker.

Nothing at the moment :( I had a cortisone injection in my knee Tuesday and am not allowed to do anything for a week then just physio, upper body and core for the next week and back to the specialist to see if it has helped. If not we will have to consider surgery :(

Well, I did NOT finish the 10k today. I woke up coughing and congested. I went down to the race, planning on just picking up my shirt and leaving, but I went ahead and started the race. But I had NO energy... I've been kind of sick all week, and was NOT prepared for the race at all. Got about 2k into it before I decided I couldn't go any further. Turned up the hill and went back home. So, at least I gave it an effort. At least I got my shirt. And now I'm gonna shower and march in the parade. THAT, I can handle...

Well, not being able to really run for 3 weeks just made me really doubt that I could do it.  A bummer since I had trained pretty hard before that...

But I'm feeling better and have moved past it.  I signed up for two 10ks this summer to help me move on :D
