It could've. Do/did you have anorexia of the binge/purge subtype?

yes, regardless of whether or not you purge.

purging = more decay

malnutrition = your teeth loosening from your gums

Sorry hon.

Yes... what Slate said. Both malnutrition and the acids from purging can cause tooth and gum decay.

I have had tooth/gum issues because of my eating issues for years now. I already had minimal tooth enamel and sensitive teeth from childhood but when I would stop eating or eat and purge, my teeth got worse. My back molars became so infected that I finally went to the dentist. I had not gone in years out of embarassment and trying to hide my problem. I ended up on antibiotics 4 times in about 5 months and had 3 root canal surgeries, plus crowns, that lead to one molar being removed (ironically, a wisdom tooth was coming in at the same time they removed my tooth and since I had more space, it filled right in where my molar was). The whole thing cost well over $5,000 but I had insurance that covered most of that and my parents helped me pay for the rest, so I was lucky.

I swore that after all of that trouble I'd never starve or purge again but this past year got the best of me so I need to take myself back there soon to get checked out once again. I seriously advise you to see a dentist asap. Nothing is worth the pain of tooth decay/removal. And try not to stress out too much. Once you go in and get checked out, you will know if anything is wrong and they can help you work on correcting it. It's such a relief knowing that I fixed a problem before it became worse and I am no longer in pain. Make an appointment and know that you are taking charge and doing something good for yourself. You deserve that.

Hi, I'm a student that is hopefully going to be going into the dental hygiene program here in town soon. Nutrition is a big part of healthy teeth and gums. Being anorexic does nothing good for you. It even effects your teeth.

I don't know your story but perhaps after the dentist you should get to a therapist and a doctor that has a history in dealing with these issues.

for sure you can't just treat the teeth, as long as you're malnutritioned the problem will persist. don't treat the symptom, treat the disease.
