What doctor to see?

Question. If I've found a small lump in my breast, should I go to my regular physician, or should I make an appointment with an OB/GYN?

I'm asking because the only doctor who ever checked my breasts was an OB/GYN. I also have a limited number of doctor visits per year.

Google seems to think you should see your GP.

Good luck. Lumps are often nothing to be concerned about, so try not to worry-- but it's good that you're getting it checked out.

Thank you!

I literally Googled "what kind of doctor to see for lump on breast"! But I'm viewing UK's version of Google, so I'll bet my results are slightly different.

Personally, I would see a family-practice naturopath, preferably (just my preference) female since they would need to examine/feel your breast. I have always found NMD's to take complaints much more seriously while having a more level head about getting to the root cause of an issue with appropriate testing BEFORE prescribing drugs, treatments or making referrals to pricey specialists you may not actually need (unlike traditional doctors). I hope it's just a cyst and nothing serious!

The regular doc will probably send you to a gyn, so you may want to just start with a gyn appointment. (USA advice)

I had a small lump in my breast about 6 years ago. My family doctor found it while examining me. Because I was on hormone replacement therapy, it concerned her so she ordered an ultrasound of the breast for me at a nearby medical complex. Right after the US, I was told it was common practice to follow up with a mammogram and they wanted me to do it ten minutes later! It was not a fun experience but it turned out to be benign, just fibrous tissue. I didn't have to go to a gyn.

Best of luck to you and I hope it turns out to be nothing!

Well you're right, those tests aren't very amusing. I also disliked having six strangers feel my breasts.

So they can't tell what is is, but it is not a cyst. The imaging place said my regular practitioner would refer me to a surgeon. They hadn't heard anything on it. The women's doctor said they'd call Tuesday but haven't yet. Run around? Someone is going to call me next Tuesday with something. :/

I hope you get some answers soon for peace of mind! And I hope that it is nothing serious.

Thanks! I guess this is my ranting thread for this... I can't really share with the folks around here.

I got no calls today. I hate to bug people; but I suppose I should call the places tomorrow.
