my son told me he wanted try a new food, (always exciting because of its rarity) he saw on his favorite youtube channel, good mythical morning.

Apparently these hipster type guys have been doing a lot of silly shows involving bacon!

I told him he is welcome to order it while out at resturaunt, but that I would make him vegetarian bacon at home.

He asked me why, and I said that when pigs die, it makes me sad. And then he said "I didnt know bacon was pigs!".

I hope I handled that ok. He says he'd like to see how a pig becomes bacon, and I told him its very gruesome and sad, so no.

I think you handled that very well, @melimomTARDIS . Has he tried veggie bacon before? Sweet Earth's Benevolent Bacon is pretty incredible.

My son demanded to pick out this week's non dairy milk. He chose vanilla soymilk, which he is calling "ice cream milk".He says it tastes like oreo cream filling, or melted ice cream.

Secretly, I am thrilled.

Remember folks- he has major sensory issues and hates most food. He diet is beyond simple, and he rarely, if ever, makes changes. So this is a really exciting step.

I was making scrambled tofu to go with supper, and realized there wasn't enough. I crumbled half a block of tempeh in there. My son looked at it and said, "Hey! It's tem-poo!" Lol

My son has asked me if I can start buying him cow's milk again. He says vanilla milk is much too sweet, and he misses cow milk.

last night he asked me "cow milk doesnt have a dead cow in it, right mom?"

Try unflavored, unsweetened almond milk. I prefer it to the sweetened varieties. (Except dark chocolate. Mmm. )

Also keep in mind that most kids like routine.

Grrr. I bought my son a small carton (school sized) of cow's milk to drink, because he asked me to please buy him cow's milk.

He decided on second thought that he much prefers calcium fortified OJ to milk, and dumped it down the sink.

Kids!

So my boy has officially dropped cow's milk, in favor of calcium fortified orange juice.

He is still eating cheese, but less often now. We have stopped with all the cheese crackers/cheezie foods etc...

so far so good. His protien intake is still quite good, so I am not worried about that. We are still just chugging along!
