Hey, do you comment on Huff Post much? Or am I just imagining it?

I think I'm going to like twitter, but I've only just started. I think it appeals to me for the random snippets that some people write. Much like this site

It's really pointless to try and understand what Twitter is and what makes it special.

you just..."do" it. and when you get the hang of it, it just clicks for you. the eloquence, humor, and creativity that can be presented when restricted to 140 characters will surprise you a lot. You'd think that 140 characters isn't enough room to present coherent thoughts...but really, it's more than enough.

I use it as chat room, for the most part. and to get News Updates and Sports Updates from my favorite teams.

Saw this thread so I thought I'd give my $0.02. I had a Twitter when it first got popular, but swiftly deleted it. Internet based social networking FTL. (same with Myspace, FB, and all that trash - Power to the Human Touch!)

I see zero reason to know everyone's thoughts 24/7 when I can barely organize my own.

I will be a twit when the fictional hell has theoretically frozen over and then undergoes the "fictional" global warming trend and the whole planet turns into a swamp.

Twitter is amazing. You can see what everyones doing/saying (including celebrities, musicians, etc) tweet your own stuff, talk to people, keep in touch...

Of course you don't need one, just like you don't need any social networking site if you don't want one, but those are my thoughts on it.

I've just begun having my fun. <3

No you do respond to people, to their tweets, thats a huge part of twitter. And people can respond back.

Also quite honestly twitter is pretty self explainatory. It's not something you have to be taught to do or figure out or given directions... You just do it.

I've just begun having my fun. <3

I use Twitter because I'm too lazy to keep up a blog. I've been using it off and on since 07, before it got huge. I found it really useful when I moved to college and didn't know the town really well, so I followed local stuff on there. So, I get updates about what's going on downtown, specials going on (some Twitter only), what concerts are coming to town, movies playing at the local artsy cinema, and news. We've also got a somewhat large tweetup community, but I tend to avoid them. I have, however, found some really interesting local people there which has resulted in some odd friendships.

It really came in handy a few weeks back when the campus went on partial lockdown due to a gun threat. Twitter was getting updated faster than TV news with more reliable and accurate information. I found out about what was going on way faster than through the emergency update system the campus uses.

Also, people on Facebook probably don't care about stuff like: "I think my cat is trying to lick me to death."

I consider it dumbed down Facebook statuses, but with less privacy invasion.

I love the almost-Zen quality about trying to keep your contributions minimal. It forces you to think more about how you structure your sentences in order to get point across (super addictive). Also, only my BEST friends use it regularly which means I don't have to deal with all the garbage I went to school with.

I use Twitter for business (brand awareness) only - my work is the online advertising and promotion of local food businesses, so it works for me. I also use it to promote my 'veganfoody' brand - same username, feel free to follow me )

I wouldn't bother to use it for personal stuff though.

Twitter is great for personal marketing/networking. It's a great way to stay up to date on news and such (just pick your favorite news sources and follow them). A lot of the celebrity stuff is just silliness, but I find it useful at times (as an actor moving to LA). There are a lot of people who actually post useful content - links to breaking news, tips and hints from their area of expertise, etc.

I like Follow Fridays, when people post links to other Twitterfolk who are worth following.

you can follow me - @wonderrandy

- I need to post more, and am trying to remember to post my FB updates through TweetDeck, so it posts on Twitter as well.

I've been pleasantly surprised at the large veg*n community on Twitter. Every day is seems like I find someone new to follow. Some tweets make my eyes glaze over but in general, I've been pointed to a lot of great info as a result of using it. Veg people love to share info!!

I've been using Twitter a lot lately. Once I got past following people (celebrities) I thought I liked and started following people who were actually interesting it became much more enjoyable.

I'm @kilcher2 if anyone wants to follow. I only have a dozen followers, one is bogus, and half of the rest never even use Twitter so it's a little discouraging.

Follow me on Twitter - @_jorts

i have to change what i said about twitter in the OP.

i love it. love it so much went up and deleted my facebook and now use twitter exclusively. i've won free tickets to things on twitter, played amazingly fun games through it (see a video about one of the games ,) i got my current job from a tweet, had moments of sheer excitement and amazement when a musician i really love or an author or someone replies to my tweets/retweets me!

i mean, i had a heart attack when amanda palmer talked to me on twitter! i don't know any other way where normal people can interact with celebrities in such an unfiltered way.

cry havoc! and let slip the dogs of war.

I had one, but I deleted it.

It wasn't entertaining at all to me, but some people really like it I suppose.

  **** yeah Amanda Palmer!

I have twitter just to follow people.... she is one of said peoples.  I didn't have it at the time, but I read about when she had loads of fans sending in photos of their armpit hair after one of her comments regarding women and mandatory shaving.

"Who Killed Amanda Palmer" is a fantastic album.

I'm good at the Twitter! Kind of.
