I have a Rio Karma and I mostly use Etymotic Research ER-4 headphones, unless I am somewhere where I need to be able to hear stuff. In the picture linked below it should be obvious which is the karma, the ER-4 is the thing with the white tips.

I have cheap $10 headphones and a $15 cd player from Walmart but they both work pretty well without much skipping.

you can get a CDP for $15? I remember getting a discman when they came down to $100 in the 90s.

It's the cheapest one they sell, I thought it was going to be a piece of crap but other than the fact that it has no hold button (so it sometimes gets turned on in my bag) it's really good.

ETA: Here it is, I thought that I got mine for $15 but maybe it was $20: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...%3A3983%3A4534

I have an inexpensive cd/cdrom-mp3 player that I've not used in a while. I should start taking more music into work.

I have a Rio Cali - very happy with it once I put in extended memory. I might get a hi-cap MP3er in the next year, but for now, as I mostly use it at the gym and running, I don't need any more playtime.

Sometimes I use my Sony MDR-V700DJ headphones, if I'm going on the train or something - they're not confortable, but the block out the sound and make me look like a dj. Otherwise I use an old pair of Sony bud-phones that have amazing sound even though they were cheap in 1992 when I bought them.

You like? Other than it *feeling* cheap, I can't think of anything wrong with it.

Okay, I can't resisted a shameless plug. Free iPod!

Help me get a few referrals. If it works, I'll take a picture of it with shipping receipts and whatnot to help convince the people you try to refer.

I have a Sony discman. I've had it almost 2 years, and it was hell expensive then, and now it's like $100 cheaper. Grr.

But I've never really had anything last me this long, so it's definately great quality as I use it heaps and it gets thrown about, splashed with water, etc etc.

Definately great value.

Well, I've been planning on buying an MP3 player, but $ are a bit tight just now, so I'm using my (cassette) Walkman, circa 1992.

I have the new 40GB Clickwheel iPod. I'm a bit bummed it didn't ship with the belt clip carrying case and remote control that the original 40GB did, but I was glad to be refunded the $100 difference between the models.

Use a sony mini disk player and Sennheiser headphones. Both pretty expensive but I get good use out of them and in my mind they were worth every cent!

The originally advertised the new 40 gig as coming with the case and remote, it seemed like a great deal, but then they changed the description after they had been on sale for about 4 hours.

eta: It is a good thing apple is selling the ipods cheaper w/o the accessories imo. A lot of people don't use remotes and the apple case is not worth what they claim it is, compared to third party ones.

I used to use the Sennheiser PX200s for portable use, I still have them. I was going to sell them but my girlfriend wants them. They are pretty good. I also have Sennheiser HD590s but they aren't highly portable.

I don't have any, but I'd like to eventually get a mp3.

Anyone remember when people used to carry boomboxes around on their shoulder? Now *that* would be happenin'! lol I might just have to do that until I get my mp3....

The only thing I hate about the iPod is that the accessories are absurdly expensive.

Only the Apple ones, third party ones are fair imo, I would love to have a pocket dock or sik line out for the karma for portable amping. The Belden digital camera accessory is sweet too, the Karma2 is going to have an SD slot which is better though. Anyway, just be glad that accessories exist, they are few and far between for other players.

speaking of ipod accessories, Etymotic Research is releasing the first good pair of headphones designed for the ipod.

I have the Sennheiser HD 437s for my MD, the sound from them is amazing. I also have the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO for work, they're my favorite ones!!!!

sony minidisc all the way... (mzr700) I wouldnt use anything else... they are a little expensive, but the media is dirt cheap and reliable... very small, long play time, easy to record stuff, and it looks really cool... not to mention most ppl in the USA have never even seen one! We better than an MP3 player (especially when you consider media prices)... though the new ones look like they are made out of plastic... the 700 is metal... I dunno about this plastic crap... oh well

I haven't had any media costs with my HD based DAP other than paying for the HD that came in it. The Qualia MD player is pimp, as is the whole Qualia line, very bosey.
