Does anybody know how to set your own desktop wallpaper on windows 7 (starter edition I think it's called?) - Microsoft for some inexcplicable reason removed that feature from this version of Windows... but I've heard that there is a way around it, but I can't figure it out.

I'm fed up of seeing that microsoft logo everytime I look at my PC :P

That doesn't work - Microsoft removed the option of setting your own wallpaper on Windows 7 Starter Edition (the pre-installed version on a lot of netbooks)
Hard to believe - even as far back as the days of the Commodore Amiga I was able to choose my own wallpaper, but microsoft decided that feature wasn't to be allowed in this version of windows.

There are apparently ways around it if you know what you are doing - but unfortunately I don't :P
