Yeah, there were major problems with Oblivion's leveling system. I hope Skyrim is a little more like Morrowind in that respect. Whatever, I'll still buy it and crack the **** out on it for a bazillion hours.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a great, great game. It feels kinda dated in a lot of ways, but what it gets right it really gets right. Loved every second I spent with it.

I think Dead Island is my next game.

You folks haven't been keeping up on your Skyrim news. Shame on you.

Attributes (agility, strength, etc.) are now gone. As is the concept of having "major" skills that contribute to leveling and "minor" skills that don't. ALL skill increases now contribute to leveling. When you gain a level, you distribute points to health, magicka, and/or stamina instead of the old attributes. The number of points you get to distribute each level is fixed, not based on the skills you increased since you last leveled. Gaining a level will also allow you to select a perk a la Fallout 3. There is a unique perk tree for each skill.

So... are the perks available to choose from dependent on the skills you developed for that level up? Like, if I wanted to make a chicken master, but because I couldn't find a chicken instead tamed an ostrich and ordered it to kick a goblin, resulting in an increase in my ostrich handling ability and a subsequent level up, would I then have to choose an ostrich handling perk, thereby gimping my future in chicken mastery?

That has not been explained, to my knowledge. But speaking of chickens, today I learned you can cast a resurrection spell on a chicken and harvest its eggs. (Not making that up! Was in Official Xbox Magazine.)

I just got a tablet and discovered that Angry Birds is free now! That's what I have been playing. I played a knock-off free version a while back, but I wasn't impressed. The real thing is the way to go.

I've been trying to master the fight stick so that I can play Blazblue, Street Fighter III and IV and MvC 3.

I have too much free time on my hands lately, unfortunately. Otherwise, I'd be doing the same thing.

Was playing Gears Of War 3 for a few days, till i realised it's actually not very good (single player) compared to the 1st two games - they had mostly enemies with weapons who use cover, flank, behave intelligently - whereas 3 just throws waves of mindless spider things/bugs/Halo-Flood-types running at you...
Most dissapointing final trilogy part since that last Godfather movie :P

I love games with crap graphics. Actually, to be more clear, i found that most of ugly games are much more deep than those with fancy graphical effects. What's more, there are often free.

Aurora ( pentarch )
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=47678.0
is just the best space game ever, in the 4x tradition, i really love the depletion of ressources, the moving asteroids, the fact that the fleets need to train to be efficient, the promotion of this guy or this one to this post or another, the huge names database ( among others the real us navy name database ) to automatically name your ships, etc...

if you want a really deep space game, you won't find better. The graphics are similar to harpoon.

If you really want a 3D space game X3 terran conflict, mod xtended.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJuqJnGTc8o
where you can build your space stations, manage your commerical fleets and their escorts etc...

Perhaps one of the best games ever is dwarf fortress
https://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/24/m...pagewanted=all. Let me be clear the begining will be hard. very hard. and the ascii graphics can scare you the first few days. But after 2-3 days, you will begin to see those mountains, forests etc like in no other game, yes they will be much more magnificient with your imagination than in skyrim.
You have to create a dwarf colony, just a few dwarves at the beginning, slowly digging into the moutain. And, slowly, more and more dwarves, goblin, elves, and god knows what attacking your fortress. Perhaps will you kill them and use those goblin bones to create arrows ? or perhaps will you emprison them ? or throw them into a labirynth deep under the mountain ? or, via an ingenious hydraulic system of pumps, will you create a flood ? what about a flood of magma ? but take care, as you will be going deeper and deeper, some underground caverns can have some nasty surprises... and i'm not just speaking about some ant-men. if you have good relations with elves perhaps will they sell you a griffon or two ? perhaps a dwarf will carve on the walls the image of some legendary battle, or perhaps will it just be the image of a dwarf eating cheese? the relationships are taken into account... if a dwarf has a pet dog or a pet cat, and this one is killed, don't be surprised if the dwarf becomes crazy. Don't be surprised neither if a dwarf survives a battle, but won't be very useful because he lost an arm, or because a blow let him paralyzed for life.

Dominions 3
http://playthisthing.com/dominions-3-awakening
is also a good game to play. you are god ( yeah it's cool ) but you are not the only one ( ah? ), so you have to kick all those other false gods who are saying that you are the false god.
Will you be angel ? a titan ? a dragon ? what about a stone ? will you lead amazons ? greek phalanxes ? zombies and skeletons ? centaurs ? samourais ? roman legions ? will you be r'yleh nation, as imagind by H.P. Lovecraft, ssitting under water and sending some magic like making all the sky dark and making the world population aging two times faster ? if you like mythology, you will have fun. The religion is spreading differently than your territory, so your religion can be in territories that you don't control, and ennemy religion can be in your territory. Those religions have effects, like more or less bad events, more or less taxes, but also more or less cold. forst giants will be stronger in blizzard, and weaker in a hot desert, a contrario to the lizard men.

You won't find as many features in 3D games.

Have fun ^^

Been contemplating treating myself to a new game lately. Candidates included Dead Island, Dead Rising 2 (yes, I like zombies), and Skyrim. But in the end I said forget them all and downloaded a copy of Fritz 13 lol. Chess never gets boring, figured I'd go with something a bit fancier than the old version of Chessmaster I've been using. From what I hear, Fritz 13 should not only offer a substantial challenge, but might even help me improve my game a bit

If you play chess i recommend to play at
http://www.chess.com/groups/view/vegan-brotherhood

it's a vegetarian, vegan, animal lovers, animal rights chess players group, with a lot of team matches, more than a hundred members and a very good rating. You should even be able to find people willing to teach you chess if you don't know how to play yet.

I've rediscovered Zoo Tycoon 2. It's very unvegan but I love it. That is until I got a challenge to get some photos of a predator hunting & then catching its prey, so I put a gemsbok in my cheetah's enclosure thinking "it's only pixels, it's ok" then the cheetahs killed him and I swear I nearly cried.

Will have to check it out. I've been playing casually for most of my life, but never really took the time to develop my game (i.e. learn the openings, analyze my games, etc.). I've been getting back into it lately though.

How is Dead Island? Is that something I could casually play through in 10 to 15 minute increments, or does it have save points or something I couldn't possibly access at my convenience if I have to go do something?

Honestly, I haven't played enough to be able to tell. It seems like the checkpoints are pretty reasonable, though, from the little bit that I've checked out.

I like the slight western like music and narration. I do admit I am not so good at it though.

I've recently got rid of my Xbox 360, and now only have a Wii - and am rediscovering the great games on there - at the moment Xenoblade Chronicles, and Silent Hill Shattered Memories.
And also Modern Warfare 3 - which for some inexplicable reason, I prefer on the Wii to the Xbox 360 - makes no sense, but I do

War in The Pacific, by Matrix, one of my favourites studios.

It's a monster wargame covering the wall theater, you can choose the flying height for your different planes, load your submarines with mines rather than defectuous torpedos, create taskforces, change the officers, fight to save your destroyers in flames by escorting them back to a naval base hoping they won't sink until then, you really need to protect you convoys, and the vast ocean pacific will make the disposition of your submarine and plane patrols vital if you don't want to be taken by surprise. It's really nice to play the allies duing the first monthes when you get pwnd and have to retreat and evacuate under heavy fire, it's also very nice to play as the japanese when you take care of the industry, building airframes and engines for your new planes ( will you produce more crap zeros, less good ones, more bombers, wich type exactly, etc ).
