And why is having fun a waste of time? If People have fun with the things they like doing, even if the only purpose is to have fun, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I was an avid gamer (with 5 consoles and thousands of dollars worth of games) but I had a fit of non-attachment and gave them all away to my coworkers' kids.

It was amazing to me how many adults were furious that I'd given that stuff away to little kids without asking if they wanted it first. Oi...

Now I have my eye on the Wii and Super Mario Brothers.

People should worry less about money, work etc. and more about having fun

I like video games...but mostly older video games. I have a FC Twin which plays both NES and SNES games. I also have a Gamecube with a Game Boy Player attached so I can play GBA, GBC and original Game Boy games on my television.

I'm brand loyal if nothing else.

games are an escape of confronting life - you can try to tell what is actually isnt an esape -

if no games were existed and no boring entertainment was existed people could have been much more focused and have much more fun

if you just more your hand or watch television its not fun - its bad

So the moment you do something that isn't productive it's an escape? None sense. I don't play games to escape reality, I deal with reality every day.

And how do you have fun then? By socializing? That's one way to have fun, and there are others, including playing games.

Yeah, playing games sometimes is really bad. It's bloody awful

Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's bad. Go and think about this please. Thank you.

i like it but i dont play it

you arnt confronting life if you choose something to do in the time you need to confront with life like playing

or doing totally useless things

people dont need to copy others because without that they aware much its destroy their lives and make them suffer and couldnt have fun

if you play games you will forget to enjoy life

anyway

games of today are still cr*p anyway and the windows platform or the money that lets you play multiplayer are too

other games on other platforms like linux isnt simple to use if you lack drivers

I have a PS2, Wii, 360, Gaming PC, DS and PSP. I also work in a game shop lol so I spend alot of my time playing or talking about games and consoles.

I love games. They've always been an integiral part of human society since the dawn of time. Humans have always played games, and so do animals. It's just that games have evolved overtime. We played games with stones, bits of wood etc, which evolved to cards and baord games, which evolved to video games. That's not to say we don't still play old fashioned games too. I don't see how games can be a waste of time at all, it's just a different use.

It's amazing the amount of time, effort and creativity goes into creating games, if you really looked into it I'm sure you'd be amazed.

Game do exist so we can 'escape', it allows us to relax and have fun, giving us a break and letting us have our own space. Same as any hobby or interest. Some people might like to read, some might like to play games. Some, like myself, have a variety of hobbies. However some like my boyfriend only really have fun when playing games. We're all different and we should embrace that. Escapism is certainly not a bad thing.

Mm... massive gamer reporting in here, too. I'm not allowed to have any of the new consoles such as a PS3 because I'm bad enough with a DS and a good PC. That's self banned, that is, by the way. Man, I want a PS3 right now.

Love the post? Why not buy the T-shirt!

Not a "gamer" exactly, but I do play PC, Wii and iPhone games. I'm mostly into the Sim-type games for PC, fitness and board games on Wii and puzzle games on iPhone. A little escape from reality now and then helps me keep my sanity.

I am a recovered gameaholic. I was quite addicted to gameahol.

@nagemurut: 1 beer != alcoholic, light gaming != escapist.

Screw you kids and your shiny new consoles. PC gaming is where it's at.

If you have a lot of time to kill and are not currently aware of older console emulators you should probably google them right now.

I just downloaded the free trial of World of Warcraft over the holiday. I always figured I would love it - but as a recording musician with limited time on my hands I figured that any free time I had should be spent recording. But then the hard drive crashed on the computer I use for that - sooooooo...

Color me nerd. I don't care. I still take showers and take breaks to eat and sleep.

I really enjoyed it. It does have the occasional 'Grrrr' bit in it, but even after dying a million times I still wanted to carry on.

I have an XBox 360.

I don't really like shooty games or war games, but I like adventure games like Assassin's Creed or Tomb Raider.

I have The Sims 2 on PC.
