Anya, I can only tell you about Germany, but a comprison with many other countries would be great.
I found differing numbers, but the latest study found that 8%
of Germany's population are vegetarian - while it is 2.5 % in the US. Yay!
As a comparison: in 1983, only 0.6%
of the German population was vegetarian! Just imagine what it will be like in another 20 years then..
I found an article
that said that 1% of the World population might be vegan. I say it must be more, considering how many people are on the verge of starvation. These people sure have a vegan diet, although of course not by choice.
Something interesting is that according to a recent study, veg*nism increases with education. 17% of the university students in Germany are "vegetarian". I can't tell you about veganism overe here though.
Germany - 8% ... USA - 2.5% ... other countries?
