I had my male dog (Elvis) at the vet this past weekend because his urethra was blocked...we've gotten through the rough spots, now it's just medication, new diet, and monitoring. I can handle that.

However, yesterday when the vet and I were discussing our plan of attack she said, "Oh I didn't get a chance to mention, he has a heart murmur and I will recommend you get him in to a cardiologist to really explore the problem."

My guy is 10+, I don't really know how old because I adopted him from a shelter and they guessed him at 4ish. I hate seeing him age. He's still very puppyish and I hate to think about him getting "OLD" and sick.

Hang in there. It's rough. Take comfort in knowing that you've made all the difference in the world to him. It's hard seeing them grow old; even harder letting go. My heart's with you.

I could be wrong, but I think that a heart murmur may not necessarily be anything serious. He may just need to get periodic checkups. Funny, my boy is also 10+....when we adopted him we were also told he was 4ish. And one of the names we considered for him was Elvis....but we decided to call him Danny instead. Anyway, I hope your boy is okay.

Thanks all. He seems to be doing better on all fronts. The vet checked the murmur this weekend and said it's there, it's slight, we'll re-check but need to keep an eye on him for declining activity levels, etc.

I just hate to see him get old.
