New ordinance would require 1 million L.A. county residents to spay or neuter dogs

1:33 a.m. April 19, 2006

LOS ANGELES Residents in unincorporated parts of the county will be required to spay or neuter their dogs in order to curb the canine overpopulation.

The county Board of Supervisors approved the ordinance Tuesday that also would require dog owners to have microchips implanted into their pets to help identify strays.

Just checked this out: http://www.americancaninefoudationlaw.com/index.html

While they talk about the rights of dog owners, so far I've seen no mention of exactly what they consider those "rights" to be. While I admire them for tackling the issue of breed banning, which I don't support, I'm a little cautious about the organization as a whole. Anybody who would consider suing L.A. County for making spaying and neutering mandatory by claiming it would do nothing to decrease dog overpopulation, IMHO has to be seriously deluded.

That's sexy, I personally think this is a major step in the right direction.

I'm guessing it's because they feel stray dogs are causing over population.

That, is awesome! I so hope more counties follow suit. Too bad it doesn't cover the whole city.
