We bought a new couch for the family room last year. We had it covered in a micro-suede called "tobacco". It's really pretty - it looks like a well-worn leather couch. And micro-suede cleans up so easily.

Here's a picture of something similar from a Craigslist ad

It's not rubbery at all. And it cleans up well. I can use a damp washcloth on it and all of the doggie marks come right up. The colors are quite varied - from tans and browns to russets and black, so it's not one smooth color. I think that helps with the doggie marks.

That's what we have, but we don't have issues with our dog licking it. I think lick marks add character though

Micro suede is an incredibly durable fabric, and fur doesn't stick to it like one might anticipate.

I'm a big fan of furniture with removable covers that can be washed. Micro suede washes well.
