Mountain lion has a catnap in the suburbs

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Zachary Bovinette said he was looking out of his kitchen window Monday when he saw his cat on a roof outside looking "most eager to get back in."

About 15 feet behind him was a 65-pound mountain lion.

Later, the big cat snoozed away unfazed by a gathering crowd in the Los Angeles, California, suburb of Altadena.

There's a little video and the rest of the article here: http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/27/mou...eut/index.html

stories like this make me sad.

they're always about how these animals shouldn't be in the suburbs cuz that's "our" territory. or in this one, the guy says it was a "well-behaved" cat cuz it didn't attack him. whatever. or they end up putting hte animal to sleep because they did attack a human.

it makes me crazy.

That attitude IS annoying.

BUT they tranquilized the mountain lion, tagged him, plan to track him, and released him back into the forest. So his life was saved. That's a better ending than what we usually read.

I wonder what the house cat thought when he saw that thing. "That's the biggest damn cat I've ever seen!!!" They do look like regular house cats except just a whole lot bigger.

I share with the others concerns about animals like less and less habitat and risking being shot. I'm glad this one wasn't killed.
