Wow!

See, all that is what we veg*ans have been saying all along, but it's hard to get omnis to believe us.

CBS did the right thing, actually, by consulting Dr. Neal Barnard on this.

Myth: Olive Oil is "Good" Fat

Myth: Margarine is Better Than Butter.

Well, ****.

Should I just consume no fats at all then?

Not eating fat is bad as well... but you can always eat nuts

Yes, I'm sure that the nuts contain all of the precious protein that I need.

Well, anyway.

Nice to see this viewpoint being published on major media sites

According to Neal Barnard, yes

Although, that myth was assuming all margarines have trans fat, when many (most?) have now eliminated trans fats entirely. If the margarine is non-hydrogenated (no trans fat), it's a better choice than butter.

This article is great. In your face, "How you get enough protein" and "I'm a meatarian, hyuk, hyuk!" people.

I was all excited reading this and told the man I was coming to post it here. Damn that yamato!

Including the "kids don't need milk" bit is absolutely flabbergasting to me. Way to go CBS!

It would be wise to refrain from negative comments about olive oil, unless one fancies the view from inside a rolled up piece of carpet, dumped at that secluded location, down by the River.

But I like olive oil. It's the only oil I've been using. It's not like I'm drinking it.

8/3/2010 is the last time I consumed meat.
8/4/2010 is when I became a full blown Vegetarian and I couldn't be more proud.

"Like all oils, olive oil is a mixture of many kinds of natural fats. Almost 15 percent is "bad" (saturated) fat - the kind that raises cholesterol.

Most of the rest is monounsaturated fat, which serves no purpose other than providing unnecessary calories. Only a tiny fraction of olive oil is in the form the body actually needs."

This makes it seem like olive oil is bad for you when in fact it's one of the healthier oils. Monounsaturated fats are the healthy fats (along with omega) that we should be getting and they do serve a purpose, they lower LDL and raise HDL. Other than that this is a pretty good article thing.

I guess people don't realize that fruits and vegetables have fats in them; you don't have to eat refined foods for fat or butter.

That it is great, especially debunking the myths about protein.

My kids were breastfed past their first year, and they really didn't drink much cow milk after that. Interestingly, they avoided the diaper rash and ear infections that other parents complained about constantly. I always suspected it might be more than a coincidence.

I'm really glad this article was posted here. Now I have something to make my Mum read so she can stop pestering me about not having enough iron and calcium.
