Kentucky Fried Cruelty is allegedly testing a new sandwich at select stores. What kind of sandwich? Try "5 layers of fried chicken skin, lumped on a bun and topped with white american cheese and bacon."

CHICKEN SKIN? Ugh. I don't see why ANYONE would want to eat that.

Because it's delicious? I'm not even going to pretend I thought the skin on fried chicken was nasty. I didn't. I liked it. I knew it was bad for me, in terms of fat and calories, but it tasted great.

Anyway...

I think this is a sandwich-unicorn. Until I see proof it's not fake, I'm going to continue to pretend I live in a world where it doesn't really exist.

I guess I'm just weird. I never liked to eat the skin even when I was an omnivore. A bunch of skin piled up in a sandwich would never have sounded appetizing to me.

I actually don't doubt this will find it's way into stores. Lots of people like chicken skin, and they need to continue to compete with other chains. (Has anybody seen Denny's new mozzarella cheese stick concoction?)

I think someone at the top of the chain at KFC is having a lot of fun seeing how far gluttonous americans will go with the nasty crap they eat. Seriously, I think it's a game for them.

When I was an omni, I enjoyed the skin too. But I would take a few bites and then tear the rest off because I knew how bad it was for me. I would never have eaten JUST THAT on a sandwich.

All that being said, it is horrible for you and I can hear arteries everywhere hardening up as I type this....

I won't lie either, I used to really like chicken skin. At KFC I loved the breading on their chicken, but after seeing footage in 1999 on how the chickens were treated I pretty much stopped eating there. I think I ate there twice between 1999 and going vegetarian in march of 2009 and I felt so guilty both times. But the way the footage and campaign was shown, I had the impression that only KFC chickens were treated and killed in such a horrible way. I wish I'd known back then that pretty much all chickens suffered the same ways. Disconnect I guess. Anyway, oddly enough the chicken skin was one of the first things for me to go "omg it's SKIN" and then not want to eat it anymore. Then it was bones, one day I was like "omg these are BONES!" and could only eat boneless skinless meat after that. Then of course I eventually went vegetarian then vegan.

The idea of a skin sandwich is really really repulsive to me now, but if KFC had come out with something like this before 1999 I probably would've been all over it. Ick.

To me that's actually less gross than the double down sandwich. Sometimes as a child I would just eat the fried chicken skins and avoid the meat entirely.

It's funny you should mention that. That sandwich reminded me of Homer's "butter waffle".

I did at one point, as did many others. Before I was veg*n, I didn't see the problem with it. That's actually what caused me to become a vegetarian in the first place - a BBQ chicken my dad got, and I was eating it and realized I was eating an actual body. That's when it really hit me.
I ate chicken and fish a few times after that, but that was the turning point for me. Though I didn't know about gelatin or anything.

Although this whole concept is probably BS I cannot lie... I LOVE the taste of greasy crunchy chicken/turkey skin and would probably jump at the chance to eat this sandwich. At Thanksgiving I was always 'that guy' who was ripping huge sheets of skin off the turkey and in particular the rump area where the stuffing was stuck to the skin. Oh my god. I most certainly did not give up meat because i don't like the taste. To be honest these type of posts only make my mouth water.

I mean, I used to love chicken. It was my fave food. And the skin was the best part. So as an omni, I would probably eat this once. But even in my most hard-core omni days, this thing would've put me in bed for a week.
