If eggs/dairy are okay:

You're going to think I'm weird, but my favorite banana cream pie recipe is made with banana pudding and Dream whip I just put a ton of bananas on the top and bottom (between filling and crust)

There's one on the Vegweb site, It looks delicious and got great reviews. I was thinking of giving it a try this coming weekend.

I haven't tried the recipes, but they all got great reviews. If you make one, please let me know what you think of it.

I had trouble finding one of the ingredients listed in the one from the Vegweb site. It's called Clearjel. I wasn't able to find it at my grocers. Has anyone used this before? I think it's similar to cornstarch?

The second recipe from recipezaar is the exactly like my mom always used for her cream pies. It's a very good one (if you're vegetarian). It's a perfect base for chocolate pie or any sort of cream pie.

Yes, I believe it's in the aisle with the canning stuff (Mason jars). That's where I found Sure Jel when I made strawberry jam.

Update: I made the pie using the Vegweb recipe. It is very rich and delicious, but the texture is more like the lemon pies I remember. It needs some sort of whipped topping mixed in or added to the top. I tried to get a picture but it fell apart when I cut it;definitely not food porn worthy! I do not care for the graham cracker crust. I think a regular pie crust would taste much better. All in all I would say this recipe is good, but needs something added to make it a little more cream pie-ish.
