I have a vita mix and tried making my own cashew butter following the peanut butter instructions from vita mix. It came out very dry.

Does anyone make their own nut butter? Do you need to add oil to some types of nuts?

Thanks in advance!

I had a post on this before too, although I don't have a vitamixer. There are tons of sites online that tell you how to make your own nut butters, and nut milk. Have you taken a google looksey?

most will tell you that you need to drizzle some oil in, yet, the nut grinder at the HFS makes PB without any added oil.

Frankly, I still have not made any, since I can get it so cheap there, but maybe just play with it some. I think I'd add some almond oil or canola, unless you want the olive taste.....all up to you though.

Thanks.

I was not sure if the oil was more for a lubricant for mixing everything up or if it was for the consistency of the final product.

I prefer the very thick PB at the store with the ground nuts. The grinder does heat the nuts up though, during the process, but there is hardley any stirring that is even needed. If you do almond butter, I have no idea if you'd need oil for that.
