I will be shortly going to Chile. Since the language spoken there is Spanish, I need some tips about the common vegetarian food available there and their Spanish names. Can somebody help me? Any additional information regarding the Spanish terms for Rice, Wheat, Vegetables and other vegetarian items will be a great help. Thank you.

Some basic phrases:

Spanish

Yo soy vegetariano/a (I am vegetarian (depending on the speaker's gender))

Yo no como carne, puerca, o pollo. (I do not eat meat, pork or chicken)

Yo como (no como) huevos, leche, o queso. (I do (do not) eat eggs, milk or cheese)

No, no quiero ningun pescado. (No, I don't want any fish)

Yo amo a los animales, por eso no los como (I love animals so I don't eat them)

Spanish/English dictionaries can be purchased at any bookstore or online.

Oh, that's so cool you will visit my country. If you want to try local dishes you could try Empanadas de queso (cheese wraps-vegetarian) Sopaipillas (fried pumpkin dough-vegan) Humitas (corn based dish, don't know how to describe it but it tastes delicious-vegan) you can request these dishes in most restaurants, but in order to make sure they're 100 percent vegetarian you should say something like this: "Sin carne porfavor" or "No como carne ni pollo" (I don't eat meat nor chicken) or if you want to ask whether the dish contains any animal product, "esto tiene carne o algo animal? lo que pasa es que soy vegetariano/vegetariana" (does this have meat ? because I'm a vegetarian.

Hope you have fun!!!!!!!!!!
