Sorry, I know this isn't the first thread on this topic!

Lots of people here have recommended smoothies as a high-cal snack, a good way to get a decent breakfast, and as something simple to make. And still I didn't try them.

Well, I've been trying to think of things to make for Jennifer to help her gain / stop losing weight, so I looked up some of the smoothie ideas. On my first try, she loved it, and so did I (to my surprise).

Unfortunately I missed the good fresh fruit season, so I used some canned stuff. I put in banana, peaches, plums, shredded coconut, mandarin oranges, pecans and walnuts, plain soymilk, and some Tofutti vanilla ice cream. I froze all the fruit ahead of time (as someone suggested), so I didn't need to use any ice. It was really good, and Jen said she'd like to have even more nuts in it, which is great for the protein/calorie aspect.

I divided my ingredients into portions in the freezer, so all I have to do is grab a container, put it in the blender with some soymilk, and voila.

I can't wait to experiment with other ingredients, like strawberries, blueberries, chocolate, peanut butter.....

That is actually a really good idea. I'll have to use that idea.

How much of each fruit do you use?

Simple, but I love it:

1 pkg silken tofu

1/4 c frozen oj concentrate

1 banana

5 frozen strawberries

2 tbs flax seed powder

I did use a lot of stuff, Sprout, lol. Just kinda went wild. Each of my portions ended up having half a peach, half a plum, half a banana, a handful of the nuts altogether, about a tablespoon of the coconut, and 2-4 mandarin orange slices. After I blended it with a scoop of Tofutti and enough soymilk to almost cover the ingredients, I had two water-glass-sized smoothies.

Tonight for desert I'm going to experiement with chocolate Tofutti, banana and nuts. Mmmm.

My favorite is more of a dessert smoothie.I use a bannana,2 Tb of peanut butter and vanilla soy ice cream.I'm sure it would be good with chocolate ice cream too. Also,I have a book called Super Smoothies. It has tons of recipes and there is a kid friendly section too.
