does anyone know if you can eat green crabapples? i see lots of recipes for jelly but they all picture red crabapples. my kids realized we have a crabapple tree out front and are bugging me to make jelly.

I ate crabapples all the time. We're waiting for ours to grow larger in the backyard. They can be tart and sour, but oh so yummy!

Yeah, we used to eat them as kids and nothing bad ever happened. We just couldn't wait for them to get ripe and would often eat a ton of green ones.

well--thanks all, glad to know they wont die! they are pestering me for crabapple jelly but i have so much food prep already i just dont know when to fit it in!

Ohhh I love crabapples! Anyway something simple would be spiced crabapple with cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar, maple, agave or honey. You can pop them into the oven for a few minutes until they are nice, soft and tasty. Really though if you can wait until they are fully ripe as they will taste much better.
