Soup. I love soup when I'm down in the dumps. Any kind (as long as it's vegan, that is ).

- Mashed potatoes, including some olive oil. With gravy.

- Cheezy garlic white rice, with tomato sauce.

- Strawberry jam sandwiches on white bread.

These things are comforting while I'm eating them but then I feel rubbish afterwards lol.

ooooh, comfort foods...

love pie when i need some lifting. blackberry, apple or pecan. soy ice cream also makes the cut. Purely Decadent is my brand and Mint Chocolate Chip, Pomegranate Chip and Peanut Butter Zig Zag are my flavors of choice. although, i've kinda been boycotting them because they are too stingy with the chocolate chips

This is so sad, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I love frozen hash browns that you cook in the oven. In fact, any kind of potato in any way, shape or form is comfort food for me.

Quite recently I've just discovered chocolate tofu mousse pie with an Oreo cookie crust and fell in love.

Luckily both of these comfort foods are about a once a month occurrence for me!

oh yum. Comfort for me = anything warm, soft, buttery, and slightly sweet. And gooey like lava cake... or toasted cheese...

Soft fluffy bread (like sourdough or focaccia), biscuits, scones, cookies... all hit the spot. All the stuff that dramatically elevates endorphins, seratonin & dopamine. mmm.

I also do tlts with smokey tempeh strips, falafel burgers, biscuits and mushroom or tempeh gravy. Foods of an American childhood but with less cruelty.

mashed potato but my all time favourite is ....

tortilla, covered in (vegan) chocolate spread, with a banana, all wrapped up like a burrito ... so naughty but it tastes amazing, especially if you heat the tortilla!

OMG!!! I forgot potatoes. Mashed or baked, with Earth balance and fake bacos on them. Major comfort food for me.

wow, i'm shocked to see how many people consider potatoes as comfort food lol. i would have never thought..... i guess it's because potatoes have a high glycemic index and so it acts similar to a sugar in the blood stream.

Yep. Big mound of mashed potatoes always cheers one up. It's not a sugar issue completely, mostly it's a childhood thing. Mashed potatoes rock.

Love the post? Why not buy the T-shirt!

Uh, way to walk in and spoil the fun, eh?

A GI value tells you only how rapidly a particular carbohydrate turns into glucose. It doesn't tell you how much of that carbohydrate is in a serving of a particular food. The glycemic index shouldn't be your only criteria. The total amount of carbohydrate, the amount and type of fat, and the fiber and salt content are equally importat dietary considerations.

That said? POTATOES, POTATOES, POTATOES. Any day.

Yeah I don't really get why the potato-hatin' came up--this is a comfort food thread. And a whole food like a potato deserving a negative comment over sugar-laden/fat-laden ice creams and cakes and pies and stuff... (Which don't get me wrong--I think those are perfect comfort foods!!! I just don't get how they're better for you..)

ANYWAY, moving away from there--potatoes are not in fact my comfort food.

-Peanut butter from the jar.

-Oatmeal (this is my comfort food, my regular food.. my pretty much always food)

-Dried raspberries, nuts, bananas (I know it sounds healthy, but it makes me feel better when I'm down so nyah.)

-Definate +++ with soup

-Corn on the cob.

-Chocolate cake squares from "Sweets from the Earth"

-Chocolate. Mmm.........

My most comforting food....

Boil two cups of water with a veggie bouillon cube in it. add about 1/3 of a cup (1/2 if you want) of tiny noodles, like acini de pepe, orzo, or little stars. Cook noodles. eat soup.

I'm actually making this right now. It's been a really hard week and I need something comforting.
