I like sweets, don't get me wrong, but I really, REALLY like fat. I love rich food. I love spicy, salty, crunchy, fatty foods too.

BUT, (and, yes, it is a BIG butt ) there's just something about a savory rich curry with coconut milk (and coconut oil ) or a rich pesto with all the oil and nuts/seeds you can pack in.

Agreed?

I realize the poll is flawed...I tried to incorporate spicy/savory too late

Spicy/savory usually goes hand in hand with fatty for me.

Everybody has a “fat tooth”. Evolution made damned sure that we liked the taste of fat, as it is the most concentrated energy source we can consume. I feel like breaking into a Monty Python parody right now and singing “fat, fat, fat, fat…, fat, fat, fat, fat…” to the tune of the SPAM song. C’mon, everybody—sing along: fat, fat, fat, fat…, fat, fat, fat, fat… Lovely fat! Wonderful fat! Fa-a-a-a-t!

Yes, yes, I know the SCIENCE behind it and I can also break down the bitter/poison/supertaster aspects of taste/taste aversion all but what do you CRAVE???

It's a FOODIE thread.

Monty Python is good too, although the thought of veg*n spam scares me, like veg*n haggis.

I used to say that I would eat anything not fast enough to get away. Now that I am vegetarian, that means just about everything. Come to think of it, that is the way I have been eating lately. Much to the dismay of the waistband of my pants.

My most prominant teeth are my salty tooth {I seriously dump salt on everything, it's somewhat alarming} and my spicey tooth {the hotter the better, pleaseandthankyou}.

You reminded me.

I so need to figure out how to make this at home, using foods available (and not ridiculously expensive) in Bolivia.

(I still don't think of Pad Thai as "sour" ...hmmm...)

My vice would be of the most unhealthy "deep-fried" sort: pappadums or french-fries or deep fried tofu or onion rings or tempura, but not a sweeping taste for the "rich" sort of "fatty" foods...

I mean, I think of things like puddings and ice creams and cheeses and gravies as "rich and fatty" and while I like them, they aren't nearly as high on my list.

Other than that... SALTY, SOUR and HOT SPICY all the way!! Sweet doesn't do much for me, starchy has to be mixed with something else too.

Same here. Salty, sour, hot and spicy are my loves, but like with starchy, all are better with fatty.

I've got a huge weakness for Italian food.

I love rich home made tomato sauces cooked with heaps of olive oil.

And, any salads served with an Italian dressing, or cooked vegetables served cold and marinated in an oil/balsamic mix, are heaven to me.

I just have a good old sweet tooth! Eating foods that are oily much or deep fried make me sorta...sorta like I really don't want to eat too much.

Except french fries. You can never get enough french fries. *DROOOLLLLLL*

But maybe I do like salty foods. Heck, I just realized I usually do crave salty foods! Because most foods I eat now are the sweeter type (Cereal, PB+J, fruits, granola bars...) By the time it's dinner time, I'm usually craving salt piled foods.

Hey...I just contradicted myself...

*thumb ups smiley* XD

I know tamarind grows in South America. Is it readily available there?

I have been entertaining the idea of making some.. I have to finish perfecting my vegan "mcnuggets" first.

I love fatty salty foods too as well as sweets. I love fries, chips. I do try to watch the fat intake as well as sweets. I find when I'm in a high physical and mental stress situation such as work, that some potato chips give me energy. I tend to eat more high fat foods at work. I'm certainly not saying that is good, it's just the way it goes. I avoid all hydrogenated oils though.

Greasy and salty are my fav's. I don't eat them too much though.

Talking to my Sister on the phone the other week and I said we'd been eating so healthy all week, we'd been eating lots of quinoa and salads. She replied with " You're vegan how could it not be healthy?"

Ahh, if only she knew the taste of breaded fried eggplant..

I hate fatty foods. I hate spicy foods. And dislike overly-salty foods... very lightly salted only. And they don't seem to like me very much either.

But I lurve sugary sweets. I was a candy-fanatic. I got it from my paternal grandmother -- it's genetics. True fact. I visited her yesterday and she had a huge bag of jelly beans by her bed. Being vegan and having to avoid citric acid greatly reduces the amount of sweets I can eat, which I guess is a good thing. But not really.

I don't think I ever particularly crave 'starchy' food. I get salt cravings sometimes, I love rich, fatty foods ... and sweets.

I also chose one or more of the above. The foods I crave are mainly sweet, salty or both (I love kettle corn). I'll often have something sweet and then want to have something salty as a "chaser."

I'm not big on fatty and that's one of the main reasons I don't eat real ice cream anymore. I'm also not too fond of sour, but I do enjoy it from time to time.

I also love spicy and savory foods. I love the earthy flavor of mushrooms and the nutty flavor of quinoa. Mix in some spice and I'm in heaven.

I also really enjoy simple, natural flavors. When I have a salad, I rarely have any dressing and I just enjoy the flavor of the greens I have in the salad and whatever other flavors I've added to it.

I think it all depends on what day it is.

On a 'fat' day, I eat a boca burger with a sick amount of light mayo.

On a 'salty' day, I eat popcorn and heavily salted roasted eggplant.

Don't get me started on sweet days... haha
