The last time I had sushi, I was still an omni. Just for reference, so I know what to order next time I go to a sushi place, what types of sushi are veg*n? California rolls are, right? What else, though?

California rolls are not always veggie. I saw some today at the store with fish clearly in it. Ive only had sushi one other time, as a veggie and the whole selection was all veggie, i dont remember what any of it was called.

California rolls have crab in them, veggie, cucumber, gourd or avocado are usually the vegetarian rolls.

The place in the mall here makes the Futomaki vegetarian, that is my favorite... You can also get any veggies they have in a roll. The Broccolli and tomato roll with spicy sause is sooooooooooo good too........... OK now I am hungry, lol

I want to get in my car and go get veggie sushi like right now. Some places have vegan tempura batter and will make tempura maki, which is yummy, also avacado, mixed veggie rolls, tofu, etc. are super yummy. Inari are vegan and some of my favorite sushi.

As of the last time I bought some, Trader Joe's Frozen Veggie Tempura was vegan. And not half bad!

Most of the sushi places I go to use vegan tempura batter. You should always ask to be safe, though. Sushi is definitely my favourite thing in the world! I have two favourite sushi places (one in my hometown, one in my university town) and I absolutely adore avocado rolls, Japanese-style green salads, agedashi tofu, vegetable tempura, edamame, spicy tofu salad...mmm...sushi... I love miso soup too, but it's too bad most restaurants feel the need to use fish paste. Blech.

I make my own.

I had some tonight.

Shredded carrot

Peanut and avocado

steamed sweet potato

usually I go for smoked tofu but I couldn't turn on the broiler as the oven was already in use.

Mango and avocado together are great in veggie sushi. The sushi place near me has an amazing seaweed salad too...with sesame seeds. YUM!

I love veggie sushi. it's the best. But I never made it at home. Is it easy or hard. And what ingredients do I need to make them?

It's not outrageously difficult, but it does take some practice.

You'll need a bamboo mat to roll the sushi and nori (the seaweed sheets).

Traditionally, the rice is flavored with rice vinegar, salt, sugar, and mirin in a 5:3:2:1 ratio.

You'll need a sharp knife for slicing the rolls.

It takes a little work to spread the rice very evenly and firmly on to the nori. Try not to leave air spaces, and use a firm hand when rolling.

Google search and you should be able to find some how-to pages on the web, with pictures.

It's a fun kind of cooking, and I just love sushi!

I'm going to try to make some sushi soon for the first time. I was buying some nori today and one package had a disclaimer that read something to the effect of "Due to the nature of this product, it may contain small amounts of fish or shellfish" which made me uneasy. I bought a different nori wrap, but it made me wonder, does the process of collecting/harvesting seaweed also kill a lot of fish?

If anyone has a good website or recipe for making sushi lemme know! thanks

I've tried the kinds from tesco (veggie, vegan if you share) and pret a manger (vegan) which are both remind me of the taste of fish and sea mostly because of the seaweed, odds are the sushi was fine if it tasted like licking the sea

You know what really tastes like licking the sea - miso soup, well more like licking a dead man on a beach.

I loooove vegan sushi

ooh, and wasabi. I get very excited about wasabi

I feel the need to clarify the 'vegan if you share' comment since it pretty much doesn't make sense as it stands

the veggie sushi contains 7 rolls, 1 of which contains omelette and one of which contains cream cheese, but the rest are vegan. So if you can find an omni or lacto-ovo to split the pack with, it's cool

The spicy fragrance and nearly shellfish like texture of Matsutake make for superior veggie sushi.

ooh i made sushi for dinner tonight

i also have a new respect for the people at the sushi place that make the rolls because i tried to make a roll without nori around the outside to hold it together and it was a disaster

even before i was vegetarian, i have not touched any seafood since i was 4 years old. It is truly a huge phobia of mine.. (to eat it.) Therefore, I have never had sushi because if I go to a place, the idea of them using the same knife they used on fish to make mine.. (or counter/board) makes me absolutely disgusted. I guess I could make my own.. but there are other things i need to learn how to make before that. i wish i could find a veggie sushi restaurant!
