As a vegan I eat loads of fruit and veg and soy products, but I have been told I am bordering on type 2 diabetes and I am two stone overweight.



Most soy products seem to have to be fried.



Any suggestions please on how to go about losing weight vegan style?.



I love nuts but they are fattening!

Hey Poppy,



You can get rid of insulin resistance very quickly. The more fat one has on there body the more insulin the body has to produce to get the glucose to the cells.



There is a book that can explain how to lose weight permanently while eating as much as you want and get healthier at the same time.

Here you have some recomendation tou can eat :



To eat infusion of alfalfa daily, takes two to three daily spoonfuls from leavening from beer, black coffee without sugar. The foods without restriction also are, cheeses (fresh cheese, requesón and type Towns; the extragreasy one with moderation; the cheese very cured is not very recomedable), eggs (1 daily), clear soup, oats, juice of tomato, infusions of grass without sweetening, vegetables not feculentas (col, coliflor, carrot, espìnacas, nabos, tender beans, onion, beet, lettuce, parsley, cucumber, radishes, asparagus, celery, spinach, brócoli) and the vegetables in leaves in general; also palta or avocado, Moor, pomelo, lemon and zapallo. Also milk and yogurt. Consume onion because they say that it contains natural insulin. It is good for eating green apple to the dawn.

Well I guess the good news is that you are pre diabetic. This means that you can get on top of it and see vast improvements right away.



Since your body's cells use glucose as its primary fuel, any extra fat surrounding the cells creates a difficulty for insulin to shuttle in glucose. For some people, just having over 5 lbs of extra fat can trigger diabetes reactions.



Following a simple diet that is outlined below will help you loose the excess fat and drastically lower your risk of type 2 diabetes. You need to eliminate or vastly reduce any white foods such as potatoes and white flour. Starchy veggies should be limited to one cup a day. Do not use any oils such as olive, canola, etc. If you can follow this basic food plan, you will be able to keep your pancreas running and feel great as well.



The idea is to try and fill up with 1 lb of leafy greens (romaine, cabbage) adn 1 lb of cooked greens (kale, collards, etc). Eat until you are full. It is important that you do not overeat. Let me rephrase that, if you are full and did not get in all of your greens, do not fret. Eat no more than 1 oz of nuts and 1/2 avocado a day.



Breakfast- bowl fresh fruit with berries, such as fresh blackberries, strawberries, blueberries



orange, kiwi, grapefruit, green apples, cantalope, lettuce, cucumber, celery, fennel



6 almonds or 4 walnut halves or other raw nut or seeds, like sunflower



Lunch- Green salad (all raw veggies) flavored vinegar or lemon and orange



Vegetable/Bean Soup ( ? vegetable juice and ? water as a base



then add beans, lentils, adzuki beans and onion, zuchinni, leek and other vegetables, spices, but no salt.



One fresh fruit for desert



Dinner- Salad or raw vegetables such as carrots, celery, peppers, cauliflower, snow peas,



salsa or chili dip- tomato paste, onion, mild and spicy peppers, chili



powder, garlic, plum tomatoes, almond butter, fig vinegar, red beans



eggplant-humus dip made by blending baked eggplant with unsalted chick peas, scallions, garlic, raw unhulled sesame seeds, (lightly toast half the sesame seeds) lemon and a little bit of horse-radish.



Steamed Green Vegetable - any green vegetable okay, no oil or salt on top



Baked, Stewed or Roasted Vegetables - red peppers, baked mushrooms, eggplant



peppers, onions, cauliflower, tomatos, frozen pea



(cinnamon, tumaric, currants)



One fresh fruit or frozen fruit desert (frozen strawberries and an orange)



Cantalope blended with one cup ice

My sister started to eat a salad everyday for lunch to start her diet. Also, now we don't eat after 7 or 8 pm. Those are some simple steps to help.



And also, exercise!

Thanks folks. I love salads but like vegan salad dressing!.



I will attempt to change my diet.Thanks Roygbiv for your suggestions, I like all those items mentioned. I love fruit and veg anyway, so its just about imagination on how to use them.

If you are looking for some great dressings that do not have any added oil,

I have a few recipes.



Do you have a vitamix or a Ktec blender?



You can always try using flavored vinegars. Cuisine Pearl has some great ones such as the blood orange, pomegranete, pear, black fig. Trader Joes also has a few flavored vinegars. They taste great on salad greens.



Also how about mixing some orange slices into your salads, topped with some raw cashews?

Do you exercise? Exercise (it doesn't have to be strenuous -- walking or swimming is good) can really improve blood sugar.

Hi poppyseed,

There is a tasty commercial salad dressing that is fat-free, very low in sodium, and only about 15 calories per tablespoon. The brand is Consorzio and the flavors are raspberry, strawberry, or mango. I like the raspberry best.
