I'm sending these to my mother-- she loves mincemeat pie, and would be very interested in making me try a vegetarian version, since I have always professed to hate mincemeat. Thanks for posting them!

What exactly is mincemeat pie? I've been wondering about that for years.

It is nowadays. In the days when it originated, it was just food, and adding dried fruit to the meat helped it go further. The modern version doesn't have actual pieces of meat in it anymore, it just has suet. Still a dead animal of course, but wouldn't TASTE the same.

As long as you take the suet out, there's not necessarily anything gross about it. Just read the veggie recipes Shannon posted. Yum!

The only thing that is gross is the name...I dunno..it still sounds rather disgusting to me!

Well, sometimes it's just called mince. No meat, even in the name.
