The slightly random Thunderstorm out here in Los Angeles got me thinking about .. Soup!

What are your favourite soups? Or favourite soup recipes...?

I have not made much soup over the years. I would love to start.

Some of my favourite flavors include pumpkin soup (or any kind of winter squash really), a good lentil is nice.. potato leek? I'm not thinking well right now... I know there are more that I enjoy out there!

Oh! I really love a good Tortilla soup! Though I've never tried to make one..

So? What do you like?

I've been thinking about pumpkin soup for the last couple of days! with a spinach salad on the side.

And homemade tomato-garlic soup!

It's getting to be that time of year where I'll be needing to stock up on a few soup making supplies!

The bean soup I made yesterday. With that Goya ham flavoring it was abso-delicious and completely vegan (although I'm a vegetarian, but I did think that was nifty) it had big chunks of potato, beans, and carrots and was just perfect.

OK - I posted my "Chick'n and Dumplings" in the recipe forum - it will take a couple days for it to show up - or whenever Michael gets around to it...

Look for it in "Main Dishes - Other"...

I'll post a link when it appears in the recipe section....

(Don't be intimidated by the long recipe - it's actually very easy)

I think my favorite soup is Dal, lentil soup with East Indian spices. This summer I made fresh tomato soup, and it was wondrous, laced with sweet basil and fresh green chilis. Butternut squash makes a good soup in the Fall.

I just bought a new cookbook called "A Beautiful Bowl of Soup - the best vegetarian recipes" by Paulette Mitchell - 2004. All of the recipes are veggie and at least half are vegan (or can easily be converted to vegan). I've tried two of the recipes: French Vegetable with Sherried Mushrooms and Polynesian Peanut Soup - and wow! they were both great! If you are in the mood for a new cookbook - take a look at this one!

Soup is my favorite food topic. Well that and bread...

I love all vegan soups, I haven't found one I haven't liked so far. Potato leek I had once before and it is good stuff, I shall make it sometime soon. I just made some carrot soup and it was very carroty (which is good though, because I like carrots) veggie soup, split pea soup, when I was l/o I enjoyed chedder brocoli soup.

What were you putting in your miso soup? What was it missing? I really like miso soup, it is soo easy, done in like 10 minutes. How I make it is: I chop up some veggies and some tofu, boil water and add veggies until cooked, add the tofu and turn off the heat. Then a minute or two when the soup cools down a little bit I add the miso and then gobble up. I read that you aren't supposted to boil miso or it ruins it's properties.

Sweet Potatoes in split pea soup? Sounds like a good idea, I am a sweet potato maniac, why didn't I think of that before? Would you please post the recipe you usually use? I'll be very grateful.
