I honestly don't understand why anybody on VB would watch The Food Network. Judging from comments I've read on VB in five months since I've registered, this channel doesn't seem to be even remotely veg*an friendly. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't watch TFN for the same reason I give only a cursory glance at the Los Angeles Times Food section published every Wednesday: The food section gives little or no acknowledgement that there are veg*ans out there.

i always hope that there will be something i can eat, so i watch it sometimes. not very often, however. mostly its on for noise and i dont bother to change the channel. paula deen however, i will watch just to see what kind of disgusting unhealthy deathfood she'll think up next. once the people on the show start pulling out the raw meat and poking and examining it and showing closeups, however, i turn the channel because its way too gross.
I like Alton Brown! Last night I saw the Wonton episode of Good Eats and he made Steamed Tofu Dumplings. Of course, he later stated he likes them in chicken broth as a soup... but the dumplings themselves were vegan! He's also had an entire episode devoted to Tofu!
Jamie Oliver and Rachael Ray and Tyler Florence (possibly on Food 911) have done veg*n episodes.
Food Finds has had a "best vegetarian dining"
Early on on the Food Network there was actually a veg*n show -- its gone now.
And there's always Unwrapped, which has plenty of interesting assembly line footage
EW! Ive watched Deens show, and everything she makes is nauseating ,veggie or not.I like watching it to because its like a culinary car crash..you just can't look away...well until she starts prodding a ham or something
Am I the only one who would TOTALLY eat a hunk of that stuff [were I not vegan/didn't give a crap about my health/were willing to gain 6 pounds upon digestion of it]?
My god I loved me some Krispy Kremes when I chose to eat them...
I like krispy kremes too, but would never allow myself to eat more than 2 AT MOST in one sitting... or one day for that matter. All that sugar is just disgusting and its not even filling (bah - empty calories!!). Plus, I never really like bread pudding anyway.
But yeah, kudos for honesty. It shows that you have mucho self-confidence.

If it were vegan, I would eat a big ol' hunk of that! A bread pudding made out of donuts? Are you kidding?? I'm already veganizing the recipe in my head with Nutrilicious donuts!
i'd totally try it if i weren't vegan. it's got to make at least 12 servings. it sounds bad when you look at the ingredients collectively but when you divy it up it's not really any worse fat/sugar/calories wise than many other desserts, even vegan ones. well, except for the hormones in the dairy and the cholesterol, etc.
Alton Brown also explains the science behind why things work and don't work - usually his recipes can easily be "converted" when he's doing grains, veggies, beans or pasta... I'm a sucker for the zainy-brainy geeky nerd type though... I LOVE Alton Brown...
I love the food network. it's the first time I've had cable TV accessible to me since I was six years old... I've watched more Emeril and Iron Chef than should be permissible by law. I love the Food 911 guy- he never seems to use unnecessary meat.
The first time I saw him, he made spaghetti with no meat and no cheese other than the parmesan that went on top (all kind of veggies in it, too- yum!) and the rest of the meal was meatless as well. I even thought the girl he was working with might have been vegetarian until at the very end, he listed off the dishes he had made and mentioned, "lots of sausage slices and cheese and crackers" Another time, he made vegetable fried rice, spinach with some honey sesame sauce thing, and smoothies with silken tofu.
That looks way too sweet to me...and the fruit cocktail sounds gross in it.
Am I the only one who thinks that Krispy Kremes really aren't that great? I mean, I guess they're OK, but I think there are much better donuts out there.
As for why veg*ns would watch the food network--it's interesting. I like watching people cook. Like Kreeli said, you get ideas, it's interesting. And I do read the Oregonian's food section every week even though it doesn't have a ton of veg recipes.
Also, how can you pass up Iron Chef? (The original, not the crappy American version, of course.)

I will watch an episode where Mario Batali is cooking but skip otherwise. I've said it before and I will say it again, Mario Batali is the best technical cook that has ever hosted on food network, and he is entertaining as hell to boot.
I love it when Batali makes something that is to be served without cheese and he says: "No cheese, please." I like that he is working to dispel the myth that italian food is always served with half a can of kraft parmesan substitute.
