I just got Everyday Vegan by Dreena Burton from the library and as always, I'm looking for suggestions for what to try. A lot of the recipes sound good, but a lot of them call for miso or rice vineger, and I don't have either (I've never tried miso before because it is so expensive)...

Miso isn't that expensive, it should be under $5 for a small container.

Its pretty dense (like old-fashioned chicken bullion) and is used in the same way.

It's more than that here...and the only stuff that I have seen (that I remember seeing) is in bags (plastic packages) in the refrigerated section.

Do not buy miso unless you know you like it; it's really gross-tasting to me. I don't like vinegar, either, and usually leave it out unless it's a dessert.

I have this cookbook, but I also bought this one along with about 13 others, so I haven't gotten around to making anything yet. However, I did go through it and mark these pages:

Soul-Full Chili, page 87

Lentil Veggie Wraps, page 101

Black Bean Millet Patties, page 110

Lightened-Up Falafels, page 113

Cornmeal Chili Bake, page 122

Creamy Potato Leek Bake, page 124

Ginger Hoisin Rice Noodles, page 126

Sweet and Sour "Neat" Balls, page 138 (I'd probably leave off the sauce )

Apple Swirl Loaf, page 163

Coconut Raspberry Squares, page 182

Double Chocolate Pecan Chippers, page 183

Ooey-Gooey Caramel Chip Bars, page 187

Apple Cherry Crisp, page 189

That's it for now. I'm trying to tackle this one cookbook at a time per week or every two weeks.
