Not a big fan of cilantro. It does taste like soap!

I'd rather eat it than earwax, though.

Hate it - I don't have the soap gene but I can't stand it. I hate when they pile it on Vietnamese food (which is one of my favorites).

I had no idea it was such a divided and hotly debated issue!! Personally I love cilantro, could eat it by the bucket!

But I DESPISE anise, or anything liquorice flavoured.

Another flavour that really seems to provoke strong rections (love it or loathe it) is that almondy marzipan flavour (like Dr Pepper!). I love it, as does my dad, but lots of people seem to think it's revolting. I've always wondered if there is an allele that controls that. Any geneticists out there with an answer?!

Yes, there is a gene that controls it... I will try to find the articles, but certain people taste a certain compound in cilantro that makes it taste soapy/chemically.

I vary. I used to dislike that strong flavor very much, but now I don't mind a pinch of it thrown in at times. I still sometimes don't like it, like it a lot other times. But definitely not LOTS of it. Just some. Then I'm fine.

Thalestral, you mean guinea piggies, right? ...Because if you have real pigs I'm kinda jealous. lol

It's funny how things change. Just a few years after I posted this, I've developed a love affair with cilantro. I can't get enough of it. In fact, I get strong cravings for it.

Odd?

Haha, yes guinea pigs - I don't think I could afford to feed five big piggies!

Nope. When my mother discovered cilantro and started using it A LOT in her cooking, I had a strong dislike for it. However, she just kept using it. My distaste for it gradually weakened over the years, and now I really like it. Food tastes do change.
