What's your favorite food to eat at a summer barbecue? I found, what looks like, a really good vegan baked beans recipe and thanks to the 'avocado mayo' suggestion of someone on these boards I also have a vegan pasta salad recipe. Those are my go to's at the moment.

Fajitas..marinate all the veggies and grill. You can grill salsa ingredients and then blend that up, too.

Corn is probably my favorite thing with mayo, lime wedges and salt.

I've only been to one BBQ as a vegan and it certainly was not a vegan one. But I made myself some lentil burgers to put on the grill. They weren't bad, though the recipe was a little dry but that's because it was my first attempt at making my own vegan burger. I actually have a much better recipe with black beans and pumpkin that I know would work well for the next BBQ.

I also like a salad that one of my mom's friends made that is sort of a twist on tabbouleh salad. It's parsley, green onion, and dried cranberries with a sweet and sour dressing (probably apple cider vinegar, sugar/maple syrup, and the like). It was nice and refreshing.

Usually if I go to a BBQ I take some kind of vegan hot dog/sausage with me. It is something easy for whoever is manning the grill to cook up for me, no special instructions. Then I drown it in mustard. Mustard is my favorite condiment so to me its like a really good excuse to eat a ton of it :D

If it's a pitch in type think I usually take a Mexican layered dip - it always go over so well. Usually people don't even think about it being veg, because its the type of thing that shows up at those kinds of events anyway. I always mix a packet's worth of taco seasoning (I make my own) into the beans, which gives it awesome flavor that makes up for taking out the sour cream and cheese.

Crochetlove, that Mexican dip sounds awesome!

Djuna, I consider myself a pretty good cook but I haven't been brave enough to try my own vegan burgers yet. I stick with store bought for those.

I juuust had a bbq party for my graduation so I can rattle off the things we had: baked beans, pasta salad, fruit, cornbread & jalapano cornbread, seitan pulled 'pork', sweet and vinegar slaw, potato salad, and rum punch. ALL vegan :D If you need any of my recipes let me know, they are all super easy.

Thanks! Here are the recipes that I used off the Internet. For the baked beans, we just bought a couple cans of the Bush's Grillin' 'Smokehouse Barbecue" flavor (it's vegan) then added a little Sweet Baby Rays for good measure. Everyone loved the food and no one guessed that it was vegetarian let alone vegan. Everything turned out great and I loved being able to go down the table and get a FULL plate of a little of everything to try :hungry:
