Okay, I'm not sure if this will work unless I get some help trying them out (anyone willing and able to try these out and judge them, please PM me) but I'm looking for nominations for the shortlist of best veg*n smoothies. I will do my best to try all of the recipes that are appealling-enough and exact-enough in their instructions to warrant consideration.

So please post your recipes and instructions here, including any witty names for your concotions you may wish to have recorded in the annuls of smoothistory.

I'll enter my Classic Bananoat Smoothie for consideration, at least so that you can at least get an idea of how much detail I need in order to replicate a smoothie - I'm not a professional smoothitician...

Stawberry Banan(b)oat Smoothie

3 cups of vanilla-enriched soymilk

1 medium banana, ripe, in chunks

3 large frozen strawberries

4 heaping tablespoons of rolled oats

1/4 block (about 1/3 cup) silken tofu

1 ounce of vanilla protein powder (opt.)

Drop all ingredients except protein power into blender. As the consistency of the blend starts to resemble a shake, add powder slowly (prevents powder-clumps. May not be necessary on all blenders).

I don't eat it often - cause it's my special treat but (Now that Dairy Queen is not an option) the chocolate shake smoothie is still my favorite.

I don't usually measure - I just dump and pour

Soymilk (full fat for the full effect) Enough for thick fluid consistency

frozen really, really ripe bananas, 1-2

1 teaspoon peanut butter ( I don't want to taste it - it just makes the chocolate 'pop')

1-2 Tablespoons of cocoa powder

maple sugar to sweeten (or applejuice works)

Tip: You must blend the cocoa powder with the milk and then add peanut butter and sweetener, lastly add the banana.

Or - second favorite, soymilk and orange juice with banana and pineapple - with just a squeeze of lime.

Or watermelon with lime juice and almond milk - trust me its good!

Uh oh, I think I hear my blender calling me. Good thing I only have fat-free soy in the frig.

I hope to see lots and lots of posts on this site - I can't promise to try them all but I sure will try a lot!

Please post people - Post your smoothie recipes!!!!

mmmm...smoothies Tonight I made ( one of my favs) a cherry/strawberry smoothie

I get bags of frozen fruit at Trader Joes so I ued some cherries and strawberries, vanilla soymilk and some maple syrup for sweetness

I also like to make mango/pineapple smoothies with vanilla soymilk and maple syrup

Totally off-subject side note- Warren, we ate at Homegrown last night and had awesome garlic seitan sandwiches and beer- that place rocks!

What would you put in a smoothie to make it not vegetarian?

Mine's simple. 1 cup blueberries, 1 cup strawberries, 1 banana, 1 cup OJ, handful of ice cubes.

Haven't had one in a while, will have to do something about that.

i think it was listed as veg*n just to mean that it doesn't necessarly have to be vegan. given the board, i'd assume they'd all be vegetarian

...though i did hear this song called meatshakes one time. highly disturbing. i was laughing my head off.

anyway, here's my smoothie: chocolate soymilk. peanut butter. ice. blend. adjust ingredients to taste

I wrote "veg*n" because I wanted to be clear that this was not specifically vegan or specifically vegetarian. Actually, it's a shmegan hall of fame, because I said so. Some would argue that honey makes a smoothie not vegetarian, but they're morons, whoever they are. In any case, there will be such argument in this thread.

I'm still waiting for more recipes!

ack! no bananas! I made a mango smoothie the other day - 2 mangos, 1 banana, 1 orange... and all I could taste was banana. 2 mangos completely wasted... my day was ruined.

next time:

2 mangos

1 orange

5 strawberries

1/4 cup yogurt

5 ice cubes

i'll call it my morangeberry smoothie.

I don't know if this is a smoothie or a milkshake or what the heck it is. It's something my dad concocted one evening when I was a kid -

So, Daddy's Weird Drink:

Vanilla ice cream

Mint ice cream

Banana

Chocolate sauce

Flax seeds

...blend.

It's so weird, but... addictive. At first you say "what the heck is in this!" Then you drink it. And ask for another cup. And another.

Edit, I forgot to mention "milk" as an ingredient. Duh. I think the difference between a milkshake and a smoothie is milk shake = milk and ice cream, and smoothie = fruit and yogurt and shtuff.

Wait, what's the difference between a smoothie and a milkshake?

My non-vegan friend actually made this up: oreos + chocolate soy milk + scoop of vanilla ice cream + 30 seconds in the blender

I haven't made one since I started watching my calories, but I like these (sometimes I cut back on the peaches and throw in half a frozen banana)

1 cup frozen peach sections

1/2 cup frozen strawberries (unsweetened)

1/2 cup Pineapple juice (or 5.5 oz can)

1/2 cup Orange juice

scant 1/4 cup coco lopez (or plain old coconut syrup )

Squeeze of Lime Juice

I am also thinking of Eternity Life's Carrot Nog. I think the ingredients are:

Carrots

Soymilk

Coconut Milk

Cashews

Nutmeg?

It comes out like blended carrot cake. It's so delicious. Oooh, I want one now...

Oh, my favorite smootie is called a Green Goddess:

Not too sure on the measurements but it's

Fresh Strawberries

Fresh Banana

organic apple juice

spirulina

It has a funky green color, hence the name, but it's just to die for!

No ice needed. No milk needed!

In my house the big argument is usually over -"Ice or no ice?" I don't like the ice as much as frozen fruit - its not really a smoothie to me with the ice. Take away the banana and use liquids with a lot of ice and I call that a slushy - what do you all prefer?
