I want to try my hand at cake decorating and am interested in fondants.

In my search for vegetarian fondants, I found Satin Ice, which is vegan, but kinda spendy. Some of the cake decorators are complaining that, recently, they are having trouble with it cracking and tearing. Like, maybe, its formulation has changed.

I recently made a marshmallow fondant and then realized marshmallows aren't even vegetarian.

Has anyone used vegan marshmallows or vegan gelatin to make fondant?

No, I've never used gelatin to make fondant, just powdered sugar, corn syrup, and vegetable glycerine.

Oh, this is good to know! I will have to experiment sometime when I am feeling Betty Crocker-ish!

I really love baking, it is interesting and even new ideas will occur especially dealing with cakes. To have a fondant icing really makes the cake as if its a toy. And I think no one likes to eat, they want it to be preserve. Fondant is much better than the boiled icing but it really needs money.
