I'm looking for new ideas on what to use chia seeds for. I found a recipe online for a gluten free chocolate/pumpkin shake, that used them to thicken the shake, but when I tried it, the shake really tasted lousy. I have been using them recently in smoothies with strawberries and banana, and they really work good to thicken it up. Some ice cubes and some almond milk with chia seeds soaked in it for about 15 minutes gives it a creamy texture... not a texture of runny ice water that you gotta drink fast before it melts.

Other then smoothies and a lousy shake recipe, i'm really not sure what to do with them.

I have had chia bars before (prepackaged), like a granola bar. I don't know if you are in to making something like that, but it's about all I can think of besides smoothies.

I just take a teaspoon of chia seeds straight up with a gulp of juice in the mornings.

You can throw some in a glass of water or juice and drink it down (let them absorb the liquid for a couple of minutes). What I do is just sprinkle some on anything and everything. You'll never even know they're there.

I've done that... but I would like to get them into my kids diet too. It's not to easy getting a kid to drink a cup of gloppy OJ with black things stuck to the side of the glass they are drinking. And besides, I do enjoy cooking, and that seems so... boring to me. Food is more then just nutrition for some... for some, it's a form of art.

did you search the net for chia seed recipes? they abound! I just looked too, and instead of linking, you could just take a look, and also there are youtube recipes using chia seeds. There are vegan puddings I saw, among other things. Also, 1 tsp of ground chia seed meal plus 3Tbsp of water mixed and let sit for 10minutes will also give you a replacement egg. I go through spurts where I use them, forget about them, get using them again.....I should be more consistant too, esp since they are so good for you!

My brand new website for health coaching, and where all of my recipes will reside!
