Okay I am cooking my supper, but have encountered a problem - I want to cook some brown basmati rice but the packet (somewhat unhelpfully) doesn't have any cooking instructions!! Does anyone know how/how long I should cook it? I'm guessing it will take longer than white basmati rice but don't really have a clue how much. If anyone could give me a quick answer I would be very grateful.

Thankyou! Sarah xx

I always cook my rice in a vegetable steamer, so I don't know how to do it stove-top. In the steamer, it takes about 15 minutes longer to cook than white rice and requires about 1/4 cup more water per cup of rice. I'd do about a cup and a half of water per cup of rice and check it periodically to see if you need more water. Should cook on the stove in about 45 minutes, I think.

Thanks muppetcow, I think 45 minutes sounds about right too, so I will give it a go! Thankyou for answering so quickly

I'm assuming I'm too late, but I cook 1 part rice in two parts water for 45 minutes.
