Hi All

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I'm brand new to VB, but hoping to meet some interesting, like-minded folks here. I'm currently 27 years old, and I've been a vegetarian since I was 11. This November will be 17 years of strict vegetarianism!

I became a vegetarian because I love animals too much to eat them. It occurred to me when I was 11 that the beef on my plate came from a living thing, and that the only difference between eating a cow and eating one of my pets was the value that society placed on their respective lives. I stopped cold turkey (three days before Thanksgiving!) and never looked back.

Since then, I've only continued to find more and more reasons to stay a vegetarian. I love the health benefits, the benefits to our planet, and I still count a love of animals as the primary reason for my choice.

I've recently moved to Tucson, AZ all the way from Maine/Massachusetts. It's an adjustment, but I love it here. I work in mental health with abused children and teens who struggle with severe emotional and behavioral issues. I love my job, even if it's stressful and often heartbreaking.

I do a lot of crafts and art in my spare time, and I am "mom" to two sweet kitties and four adorable pet rats. They are just about the six most spoiled animals in the continental US. But they're happy, and that makes me happy.

Well, that's the cliff-notes version of "me." Howdy, fellow vegetarians! Hope to get to know you soon!

it is but well worth it. I work in a backcountry drug/alcohol rehab that also deals with cutters/food issues/behavior mod, etc. Very good program considering over 1/4 of the staff are ex students.

Hi RedLotus. Welcome. 17 years... that's great. I wish I had gone veg*n back when I was eleven. What kinds of arts and crafts do you do?

Catch a shape in the circles of my mind.

Unovegan, yes, very very rewarding! I work mostly with younger kids (5-12) who have been sexually abused, and all the issues that come along with that. I've worked with some amazing kids.

3LittleBirds and Amy SF, Thanks for the welcomes!

Nessus - I knit, paint, draw, make jewelry, and glassblowing. I also have recently gotten into doing crafts with reclaimed/recycled materials. Oh, and I'm teaching myself to sew!

Oooh, glassblowing sounds like a really interesting hobby. Even after watching demonstrations where they show you step-by-step how they do it, I still think it looks impossible.

Welcome fellow Arizonan! I am also a former Baystater. We escaped the snow and cold 5 years ago this August... We live in the southeast valley (outside PHX).
