I have been a vegetarian since February 17th, 2005.
I had always wanted to go vegetarian and absolutely hated eating meat as a child because I knew it was an animal.
My mother first noticed this when I about 2 years old, when visiting an oriental friend who cordially gave me a steaming bowl of soup that had whole bodies dried fish in it, something like minnows. These little fish had HUGE eyes. (I think my mother politely gave an excuse to exclude herself from having a bowl of soup, but let me have one, thinking I was too young to care).
To her great surprise, I stared at the little fish which were "looking at me" for the LONGEST time. Finally (after great contemplation ;-) ), I meticulously covered every single fish eye with a piece of potato so that they could not "stare" at me while I ate, and then -very carefully- ate every drop of my soup, avoiding every piece of potato on every single fish.
But it would many years later before I became a vegetarian.
And, a few months ago, just for fun, I went to the SPCA and housed a pregnant cat who gave birth at my house and raised the little kittens who were found homes 3 months later.
One of the best times of my life! I highly suggest doing this --- the SPCA always has a pregnant cat who needs a foster home for several months!
So here I am on VeggieBoards!
