In case anyone was wondering. It sure is a lot easier now than it was then. Back then you had to check the labels on everything... and it was hard to find stuff without LARD in it. Holy cow! (pun) People told me I was going to die without meat... they looked me straight in the eye and told me I was not going to live two more years. Being vegetarian back then, it was practically unheard of.

Nowadays there is much catering to the vegetarian demographic. (Yay!) And in the years (decades!) since the decision was taken I have never once felt regret for making the change. Everything I learn tends to reinforce the decision. Now, even global warming, which is much exacerbated by the animal industry, theoretically anyway... not that I am a big believer in it. To me it's more of a political thing, that people scold me for being a global warming skeptic but then they eat meat and drive gas guzzlers (I ride a bike everywhere I can) -- it kind of gets on my nerves sometimes. Hypocrisy is never very attractive.

Anyway... Thank you for this board and an opportunity to sound off! Honey, I'm home!!!!

Anyone else ever have those dreams where you dream you're eating meat? Ugh. They're so realistic, the grainy texture and all... waking up trying to gather it all up and spit it out, and OH SO HAPPY that it was just a dream... (Or is it just me?)

Thanks for the welcome everybody.

In 1978 I was 8 years old

But I hear what you're saying about it being easier now than then (even if my experience of such is second hand). Many (if not most) of the literature until the mid-70s or so used a very .. weird ... definition of what it is to be a vegetarian. My favorite study (I should dig up the specifics) followed people on a brown-rice only diet. The conclusion was that their vegetarianism was causing health issues. I have no doubt diet was causing big time issues ... the fact that the participants ate only rice probably being the key!
